Indeed it is all guesswork. At the end of the day though speculation about future signings is directly linked to speculation about cap space.

I saw Darren Lockyer at St Stephens this morning, i'm guess we've got 200k spare at least to bring him in.

It got introduced because some clubs complained that it made the SC impossible to manage if they had to include possible prize money in the calculation at the beginning of the season. IIRC Saints got pinged a couple of times for minor overspends and blamed it on this factor.

At work yesterday, a Rovers fan had mentioned us supposedly signing Cam Smith (obviously total BS), so playing along I said it wasn't him we where signing it was Greg Inglis. He said this morning about all these rumoured signings we where getting and gave a long list, including Inglis. I told him that I'd made up the Inglis one and if he's told anybody else, he's made himself look stupid. He just looked a bit sheepish and looked a bit embarrassed.

So if you hear any rumours about Greg Inglis joining us, I'm sorry, it was me

Weren't King and Raynor paid off using the money left over from Crocker not arriving? And therefore on last years cap?

a good point, I'd forgotten about that.

Although, if that was the case, the club must of known those two weren't going to be here this season, as our recruitment was complete before they were released.

I'm pretty sure King was paid off from 2009 but Raynor was registered with FC this year and was paid off from 2010.

fairly sure someone said before that as they were contracted for 2010 the payoff of this years contracts would count on the cap. can't remember who said it at the time but they did quote some regs

to be fair, he regularly admits he knows nowt and is keen to demonstrate it

Seem to remember it was a technicality on these payments that caused Saints to get popped for breaching the cap, too.

King's release was announced on 1st December 2009 (he signed for Wakefield a few days later) and Raynor's on Boxing Day.

I think the cap runs from nov.

True, Raynor might have been on Hull's books for the start of the salary cap year (he got a squad number) but I'm not sure King was.
