| Quote ="Kosh"The quota rules are as tight as they can be while complying with EU employment law and avoiding expensive legal challenges. If you read the post from Ian Lenaghan linked to in my reply to sandy, it gives a great picture of how we ended up where we are and where we eventually get to.
The RFL may be generally incompetent, but in the case of the quota rules I think they've actually done a pretty good job given the minefield of legal complications they have to plot a course through.
The Fed Trained idea was actually created by FIFA and has been approved by the EU. There are rumblings about them finally getting around to implementing it soon.
And if the current rules are a 'joke and embarrassment to RL', what would you suggest instead?'"
Good explanation Kosh, Cheers.

| Quote ="Mrs Barista"I agree and think it's partly by design. They can then hide behind the ambiguity of it all when there's a contentious ruling to be made. IMO there should be a register of players showing their status from an eligibility perspective.'"
The Fed Trained stuff is actually in the Operational Rules. The trouble is that it's worded in legalese and split between two different sections. It takes a while to track it down and piece it together.
The eligibility of all registered players will be held by the RFL and available for clubs who may wish to sign a player. Not sure that anyone else needs to know TBH.

Would limit the endless quota discussions on here though.

Reading the HDM today it looks like Webster isnt going to be our new ast coach, also Basil Richards isnt either. So some good and bad news.
www.sporthull.co.uk/headlines/HU ... ticle.html
Our defence wasnt great last year, in fcat at times it was shocking, however if I was Agar I would be looking at a coach who could improve our attcak which was our weakest area last year. Like the artical says hopfully Long will do a lot of coaching to help improve our attack.

| If we bring in a defense coach and Long sorts out the attacking plays then Agar can stick to deciding when to kick for goal/touch, we might get somewhere then!

While i`m not saying that Webster is coming the above story from the HDM is pure conjecture on the journalists behalf, there are no comments from Agar or anybody else connected with Hull FC.

Think its fair to assume though - agar wants a defensive coach, webster certainly isnt that.
FWIW i would have Iestyn Harris here as a coach in a shot, think he will be a top head coach in the future

| I would be happy with Webbo should there be any truth in this thread. If Webbo doesn't come then I would make Longy the assistant player coach and offer him a deal to stay on as assistant when his two year deal ends. I think we need to work on our attack more than anything. Lets face it, when your attacking your not defending . Defence is great but attacks better, the greatest form of defence is attack.

Just a question and not a dig at Sean Long at all as I do believe the guy is a quality player and will offer Hull a lot next year (fitness allowing) but...
Do you really think he is coach material, what I've seen of him makes me think he is pretty much a loose cannon, great at what he does but not a motivator / mentor of others. He calls the plays on the field and bosses the team around the park as well as anyone but how would he deal with the finer points of managing the attacking players etc.. I know as an assistant this wouldn;t be a prime concern but I would have thought if this is to be Agars team then he would want and assistant who will listen to him, advise and support, just don't see Long fitting that bill.
I posted on another thread that great players don't make great coaches, think this would be another case of that..

| Only time would tell Barham Red. I accept your points of view made. I say Longy simply because he has made it no secret that he would like to go into coaching when his playing career is over. I have never heard any negative feedback from fellow players regarding his personality, I say, If you can organise a team on the playing field then your can do the same off it. Give him a chance for me, I personally think Sean Long would make a great coach but this would require time and experience, Perfect learning curve for an assistant me thinks.

Read what the Saints Chairman has said, and their coach, and indeed a lot of their fans, and it is obvious that it is not the fact that he is a great player that we are using as a yard stick for him being a good coach but his enthusiasm, passion and will to win! He is a good motivator in the dressing room and those qualities will at least give him a good good start at least as an assistant coach!
I think we will look for a defensive coach myself though!
