I would have thought that a pay as you play deal as long as you set aside the monies on the cap would be the best way if it happens (I cant see it IMHO).
Lets say you pay him £250 a game as long as you set aside 27x£250=£6750 then I can't see where the problem is.

And I don't know if it's a similar story, but I also remember when there was the talk of Willie Mason to us that the NRL wouldn't let him do the same either. He wanted to sign a $50-100k deal for one season to stay in the NRL at one point but they would not register him to be paid less than a realistic market value. It was only Roosters offloading Harrison that enabled him to move anywhere with enough cap space.

No, just that it needs to be more performance-related. If he's covering 6/7 he's virtually guaranteed 27 games and therefore has no incentive to perform. £50 per assist is the way forward IMO.
