It would be a very naïve approach to do the remainder of the season on the cheap. Continuing on this run on hammerings will only lead to more fans deciding not to renew next season, which ultimately is this clubs biggest income.

Lower crowds = lower player budget = more of these types of results.

This feels like a pivotal moment for the club, if (and granted its a big if) we can pull off a couple signings which captures peoples attention which has a positive impact on results, then it may help to win back some of those that have understandably lost all hope

I am a strong believer 2 players could revolutionise a side. A good kicking game would help our big forwards massively. When Gaz Ellis was on the pitch every player was 10% better. These signings need to do that.

Players like Okunbor will have to find form or sit out. NU brown could move to 9 permanently. Sao wouldn’t have to try as hard reducing his brain farts

Adding Trueman in we could realistically have a much improved 6 & 7 and a NZ international hooker.


Still love Dave’s suggestion of Russell on Loan and Allick. I’d then try bring in an experienced Centre or 13 with some real leadership pedigree. Might be a pipe dream but someone like Dane Gagai on an 18 month contract (as he’s 33) or Morgan Harper as a back up

Can't see any NRL starter or even close to that being tempted. Our best hope is a player fall out - but that doesn't usually bode well for attitude or commitment, or a young prospect short term.

Leadership has to be key - we haven't got any on the field - our kids only hope of developing is dependant on good leaders showing the way.

FWIW thought Joe Cator had a good return - again physically just on a different page to the youngsters. The return of Fash & Ashworth will be a boost, followed by Trueman ? Regardless of the rest of the injured I reckon two more quality players would make us competitive again ?

Reality is I don’t think we’ll get better than a Brad Parker or Morgan Harper unless we unearth a gem from reserve grade

When selected at 9, ball in hand, he's miles better than Houghton.. IMO.

I don't mind Brown leaving if we use his quota spot properly.
If we can get a decent genuine 7 and a good 2nd rower to replace Brown and Hoy then we will have a better balance to the team.

Halves - New 7, Trueman, Charles, Smith (if necessary)
Hookers - Houghon, Balmforth, Hodgson, Smith

We will look better in the halves with a genuine 7 and also stronger in the back row. I admit Brown at 9 was the best we had, but overall I think we would still look better going forward thanks to a new 7 and 11.

With Hull Live saying we have targets at 7 and 11, I'd be interested to know who targeted them. Was it players Smith identified before parting ways, or is it James Clarke who has picked them.
