When one victory makes such a significant difference to our season then of course it will alter perceptions. More relevantly, it directly affects the sensibility of the story under discussion - it would be much more credible if we were not one of two teams still in the hunt for both trophies and appearing in one of the two finals on offer.

It only makes a significant difference if we win the final. The difference between beaten finalists and beaten semi-finalists when the season is ultimately assessed is not that great - particularly if the league form doesn't continue to improve.



I'd say that was 'less relevantly', given that we unanimously agreed that the story in 'The Star' was horse several pages ago and moved on to discussing Gentle's position more generally.

Gentle has taken us to a major final, more importantly he is putting into place a very good young player program for the future, has given young players a chance , the likes of lineham crookes shaul green bowden etc, we cant expect him to take us to the top in just over a year, but imo he is going in the right direction, as for the daily star report i thought april 1 had passed

gents has proven that he can pick a team and devise a game plan to beat any team in super league. why we have dropped silly points this season is up for debate but when gentle finds the illusive formula for consistency we will be a force in super league

Still think Gentle hasn't finished with our team. He's tried improvement's but the injury curse always seems to find a way of dampening our year.

Don't believe what the Star say's. True there's no smoke without fire but feel Gentle's job is safe.

Him and AP have done wonders with the youth structure and the future does look good.

At the point you posted, 5 people had said they wouldn't sack Gentle. Only 2 of those suggested he get another full year.

What a few more DID say was what they thought would happen, and several saying that they are still undecided, and it will swing on where we finish and the final result (pretty much exactly as you've just said).

Also, whilst in the minority, there were comments like this even in our run of 5 losses, so it is not really the vast turnaround you're suggesting.

Perhaps I was a little unclear in that I limited my comments to just this thread. There has been a significant change in rhetoric towards Gentle (and our situation in general) since the Warrington game when, in real terms, not a lot has changed. The post immediately preceding the one of mine you questioned being an obvious example.

Since then, several more posters have added to the strong sense of positivity that was almost absent a couple of games ago.

If you're not restricting it to this thread, that's a little different but I still don't entirely agree. It's not necessarily about people changing their minds over one game, there's also the fact that those with positive feelings all along will more comfortable voicing them now than a couple of weeks ago, when they'd have been shot down and possibly ridiculed. With changing fortunes there is a certain element of change in the forum population, and thereby a shift in some of the content. Works both ways, too, have a look at how many posts Sebasteeno has made since the Warrington game.

I think he deserves another year. If we lose the CC final and don't make the 8 then AP could rightly get shut and although I would see the season as a failure I would still be in favour of Gentle keeping his job. He has improved the squad, given youngsters a chance and improved our defensive structure. His failure has been keeping the team motivated and also our attacking structure.

I don't think AP is happy but, think he'll stick with him for one more season.

Correct Paul, he should be given another year as the team/club is definately improving from youth upwards. Our Defence is outstanding and our attacking structure needs work but I do believe is Holdsworth and Miller stay fit we will get to the top four next season.

I reckon being at Wembley helps raise the profile of the club with potential sponsors and signings in a way that being a beaten semi-finalist wouldn't.
