| Haven't read all of the thread, so I don't know if I'm the first to say this, but Hull has always been a crap night out. I'm not a big fan of the whole nightclub scene anyway, but places like Leeds, York and Newcastle seem a much better night out than Hull ever has.

| Quote ="ullukk"Henry's!! Hull no 1 spot!, it was never as bad as the reputation it had, better than ocean 11 anyway! used to also enjoy welly and the old silhouette on spring bank, did'nt bother with city centre nightclubs too much apart from maybe scamps if some free tickets where flying about in trog bar earlier in the evening.
Happy days!!!'"
Was it not? Must be a different Henry's top the one I remember.
On the last occasion I was in there (a work's do), I can't honestly remember much about my visit. It had clearly been a good night. However, I remember a chap in the gents politely suggesting I keep away from his 'bird' (his ex, who I had no interest in, I can assure you of that). 2 minutes later, another one of our group came out of the same toilet, and without saying a word he picked me up off the seat by my throat, marched me down the stairs, into a taxi and we went home. Never told me why, but I always assumed it was for the good of my health...

I don't think it is a crap night out.
I've been in a lot of town/city centres where you don't get anywhere near the flange count.
A lot worse than Hull, although I agree about York.
Bring back Toffs.

| Only been going out regularly about 5 years but it's changed even in that time. Fridays used to be generally quite steady round city centre but it's dead now, e.g. there has been the odd time down George Street when Dram has been the only place open. In terms of clubs I think there's only Spiders & Piper that can regularly draw on a Friday, although from what I've heard Princes Ave is busy, + was down Cott Road/Newland Ave a few weeks ago and that area seems to be doing okay.
On Saturdays it sounds like Sugarmill and Pozition do well in town, rest of city centre is quite busy, was in Old Town on Sat and there looked plenty of people about. Spiders still does well on Saturdays, Welly I hear also does (not been for a few years), think that's probably it really for clubs.
Re good places to drink there's a few 'hidden gems' round the outskirts of the city centre that I prefer to town itself these days e.g. New Clarence, Hop & Vine, Wellington (Russell Street one) and Lamp to name a few.
New places like Hollywood & Vine are trying to get going (and offer somewhere different), presumably though it must be hard these days with all the factors like the smoking ban and cheap supermarket offers. Adelphi also deserves credit for managing to keep going through so many years of changing trends and financial hardship in Hull.

Like I said, I'm not a big fan of that kind of night out anyway, but if I'm pushed into it, I much prefer Leeds, York, Manchester or Newcastle to Hull.

| I think a lot of what has happened with the town centre is some kind of swing away from the centre, Prinny Ave thrives and Newland Ave now has a stack of bars - of course as they all stay open late it means people don't hit the clubs like they used to...

Once! I was persuaded to go in after a night on the town with 'the lads' It frightened the life out of me; I honestly thought I was destined to be stabbed front and back.

I think the recession and cost of drinking out is really hitting hard now.
even Prinny Ave has been a lot quieter in the last few months than it has been for the last few years. Bev Road is dead, New Town only attracts the chavs in the early hours.
the only places with much of a crowd at all are the Old Town and the big nightclubs (Pozition, Sugar Mill, Welly and Spiders)
I can only see this getting worse as the drink prices go up...while the supermarkets charge less and less.

Be interesting to see if the plans for a complete regeneration of Marina ever come off.
Supposedly 'Gay Town' (other peoples' phrase for it, not mine) is doing really well (Yorkshireman, Star & Garter, Propoganda and Fuel), + presumably Asylum still does great for the Uni. Speaking of which, sad to hear about the demise of the city centre Lincoln Uni campus, had a few good years there.

| Spiders is briliant! Thay have finally got some new speakers. Can't argue at £1.60 for a pint of Stella? Lamp is ok and have some pretty avant garde stuff on sometimes and is pretty chilled out.
Weekends tend to go well with the arrival of a pay cheque at the end of the months I think.
Prinny ave and piper do well on a friday (student night in piper). Pozition is student night on Thursday and Welly on Wednesday.
Room was pretty good when it was around. I think Welly is still pretty popular on a Saturday but can be expensive when they have a gueat DJ on (like £25 on the door)

Not sure it's still open, because I've not lived in Hull for quite a while, but The Adelphi holds alot of great memeries for me. One of my first live gigs was to see Carter USM (Sheriff Fatman is still one of my all time faves ) I saw cast, The LAs and I think Shed Seven too. Never saw them there but I'm sure Oasis and Radiohead had done early gigs there too. I think the guy who owned it was called Phil or Paul or something similar. Always seemed to Champion live music really well.

Paul Jackson; the guy deserves a knighthood for the work he's done in bringing some top artists to this city.
Haven't been for a while but I do like Adelphi, I wonder if there's a door on the toilet yet?

Nice to see little clubs like this are still open and keeping busy, like you say he's done a great job bringing some top bands to the region.

Been once on a Monday night, full of stuck up posh students who think there better than the average person.
Not really a big fan of Sugar Mill, Fridays are okay tho.
Pozition on Thursday's is always rammed, cheap too.
Old Town and Pozition for me on Saturday's.
