| Quote ="Jake the Peg"If the club offered you a card for free or little cost you'd take it. You'd like the fact you had a Hull FC card in your handbag. It would give you a warm glow inside.
You'd also like the fact that you'd get the odd "special" offer and money off in the shop every once in a while. Without knowing it you'd be even more in love with the club than you are.
Schemes like this are successful because it makes people feel closer to the club and it ties them in longer term.

I find that hard to believe. I get money off in the shop with my season pass. I get communications from the club on a regular basis through a variety of media. I'm not sure whether I would get a warm glow inside from having a card. Unless the "special offer" was Dowesy as my personal slave for the day or something similar.

You really think there are so many shallow brainless sheep.... oh hang on
Seriously, though, the Tesco et al loyalty schemes are free. The rugby "market leader's" (ha ha) is £60. Paying to donate your loyalty is an oxymoron. Loyalty is earned and given freely - to encroach on that gift from the consumer by extracting cash will eventually turn it sour so it dies.
You can't buy love. And to try to kills it.
Rovers scheme is a short term solution to their financial problems - admitted by most fans. But as soon as those fans get disgruntled aboyt their club - for whatever reason - they will start to think they "aren't getting their moneys worth for their extra sixty quid" and it will turn round and bite Rovers on the bum.
Making faithful customers pay for a membership scheme is a dangerous game for the distributor in the long run.

Not really. The fact of the matter is that Rovers wanted an extra £50 on season pass prices to stem their succession of financial losses. They dreamt up a scheme whereby you basically had to pay that cash in July this year to get benefits (that only just match the joining fee) that don't start to accrue until 7 months after that, the derby offer not even materialising for a full year after payment of the joining fee. The discount on shirts is fairly common amongst other teams' standard season pass schemes. I accept that you are promised price freezes for 2011, but in return you have to pay a "nominal fee" that the club won't disclose, so you can't judge the merits of that bit yet.

So if it was done to raise money to stem short term cash flow difficulties it has been quite a success having raised £300k+, wouldn't you agree??

Still, needs must - you're right. An extra £300k will stop the gap for the next month or so.

It won't have raised £300K+ though as children got free membership and concessions were £30 IIRC. Rovers have increased income overall, even though they have yet to achieve the same number of passholders as last year, so yes, it's raised some cash. Don't forget they are paying someone to run the scheme though, plus the cost of 2,500 books to give away, plus £25,000 bill to pay in July for the discount on the FC derby tickets...I'm sure the money's put aside for that, though, and not for installing electronic turnstiles.

It is impossible to evaluate the long term costs to the club or the feelings of the fans, but it is clear that they will have at least 5000 season ticket holders for the next 2 seasons if fans want to cash in on their small initial investment.
Personally i couldn't care less about the whys and wherefores of the scheme as i have not paid to see either team in years but despite Mrs B ramblings it seems the folk of east hull have embraced the scheme wholeheartedly and backed their club with their hard earned readies.
Don't see what the problem is really

Couldn't agree more, which is why I've said it should only happen if it's free or the cost is nominal. It's about a long term relationship with the club.
Interesting that the dobbins have got people to couch up £60 and feel good about it though.

Even so like you said Rovers have got people to part with £60 and feel good about it. Mrs B seems to constantly rubbish it and she is indeed getting a little bit boring now, but i don't see what there is to argue about

truthfully how many looking at scheme will actually feel good about it. What people say and how they feel are different. They may understand the reasons for doing this but to say they feel good about paying an extra £60 is imo spin doctoring of the highest degree.
