Just as well they didn't bother with the 14k capacity they promised would be in place by Feb 2010 then.

| Quote ="The Dentist Wilf"Its quiet on here so heres something to have a think about.
Friday is without doubt a landmark day in the history of rugby League in Wakefield when the Wildcats fans will await an announcement outside the town hall at 11-00am as to whether Wakey have got outline planning permission for thie new ground adjacent the M62. If they get the green light everything is in place to have a new ground completed by Feb. 2012.
If they don't get it they are sunk, and will I believe be for the chop but all indicators point to them getting the permission granted or at the very least a public enquiry being called for. However I think it will go through so if it does, with Salford starting work on their ground next month, all the funding and permissions in place for Cas's new home with work scheduled to start next feb. and Widnes an automatic to come up as they meet all the criteria needed, who will go down? Because according to the Super League clubs the league will definately stay at 14, and if any club meets the necessary criteria then they must come up, but someone has to drop out, and it has to be in their words of a couple of years ago 'the least equipped club to meet the Franchise requirements set down for Super League membership'. Will in fact a team with a new ground still go down? Discuss
'"
I Hope both Wakefield and Castleford stay alive - who goes out I really dont know.

| So based on 2010 clubs and their grounds what do we have?
HFC best ground in SL
Wigan best Football ground in SL
Wire decent new ground
Giants second best football ground in SL
Leeds best traditional ground though best stand half closed.
Saints nice new ground.
Cas nice new ground.
Crusaders cr4@ football ground. In Wales
Quins decent RU ground in south
Bulls bomb crater but big and better than team 14.
Wakey new stadium.
Salford new stadium.
Catalans best ground in France.
Rovers ????????? Shizzen hole !!!!!!
Is that what you are getting at Wilf ? Bye bye the poorest team in SL with the poorest ground. Though it is relatively modern if you think about when they moved in. Though the old CP was better.

Nope, just a reasonable question and some good debate its certainly interesting now Wakey have the go ahead, there will be a bit of twitching in Cas I believe. Obviously Salford have their concerns despite their new ground being the most advanced of the three. They think they can maybe sign there way to a Franchise. I just think it is really interesting, obviously its a grade c club that will go because that was always the parameters set out, grades may have gone this time around but the old ones will still be pertinent this time.

Well the department of th environment could call it in for an enquiry and there are a couple of transport issues to sort but as my sunday paper said today' Wakefield have got the get the thumbs up and are now just faced with a couple of procedural issues before they can start building'. Like two cases of urinating in a public place and being linked with a betting scandel, they are though just small issues to over come and should not stop the eventual outcome.

The timescale is and wakey have a very finite amount of time.
A PI now completly screws them.

They couldn't even find the funds to pay a tax bill yet you think they are going to build a stadium within 12 months?

I would agree with that the timescale would be about three months for a PI which would put the completion date after the start of the 2011 season which is stipulated in the Franchise document. They estimate 9 months to build but there must be quite a run in period to that, remember when the Cricket circle had to be 'swept' by electronic equiptment for unexpoded bombs etc. there's loads of prelimaneries to go through.
as for funding it they are not paying for it or commissioning the stadium they are just the anchor tenents but I agree the time scale is tight its actually 16 months to the RL deadline of Feb 2011, but they believe that they can do it, as do Cas who are only just a bit further on and still awaiting detailed PP. In any case I don't know whether the RL need just to be 'Satisfied' that a Stadium is being built, but salford Cas and Wakey are indicating that they will leave their current grounds at the end of 2011 season. Which qiute franky I simply cannot see being attainable.

I thought a benefactor had agreed to pay the tax bill and the funding is in place? Their financial loss last year was smaller than several other clubs.

The Stadium is being built by the developer in conjunction with Wakefield Community Trust. Trinity will be the anchor tenant. Funding is in place from these sources as was confirmed to the Planning Committee on Friday.
The feeling is that it is unlikely to go to a Public Enquiry given that this would cost tens or even hundreds of thousands of pounds and does not sit well with the governments cost cutting and their emphasis on decisions being made locally. This coupled with the jobs that would be created made the council vote unanimously for the devlopment.
If and when the Secretary of State passes it back to Wakefield MDC for them to make the decision without a public enquiry it will be passed again unanimously by the same committee who passed it unanimously on Friday.
Full plans are already drawn up and ready to submit. Stadium designs have been finalised and everything is ready to go. It will be tight and there is a contingency plan should the build not be finished on time. But it will happen.
As far as the RFL is concerned - Que sera, sera
Oh and yes a benefactor has paid the tax bill rtaher than the club paying it off monthly.

| Back to the thread, I am still hoping it is Wakefield.
Their constant mismanagement, brinkmanship and sheer arrogance (thinking they are now safe !) deserves a relegation.
