First of all lets look at the positives.

McDonnell looks a handful, I reckon he will go well when the pitches firm up.
Crookes impressed me, I have called for Lineham to be picked but I thought Crookes was probably our best player last night.
Pitts and Green (and to a lesser extent Johnson) put in real good shows, and I believe they will only get better in better conditions. Green in particular could be a real star.
Leeds had all the possession and field position, but in 60 minutes all they had to show for it was one gift under the posts. Ultimately our errors and decision making cost us and all that pressure told. Leeds were also much better than I expected this early in the season, on that evidence not many will go there and get anything.
Watts and Tickle should soon be available and will really bolster a pack that is just too lightweight. Especially in heavy conditions.

On the downside.

Seymour and Holdsworth just never got anything going at all. Ok they have played very little together but I expected to see a bit of promise at least.
Arundel missed some very poor one on one's, his attempt on Hall in the build up to their first try was pathetic. However he hasn't played in a long time and I am willing to give benefit of the doubt.
Galea was worse than useless, unfit, lots of errors, too slow and you could write down his positive contributions on a stamp with a paint roller. Sure he's a good pro and he is a good influence on the kids but he looks finished on the field. If Tickle isn't available next week I would be going with Whiting and Westerman in the second row, Pitts at loose and Bowden on the bench.

I'm judging the team on the players in it, not how we played last night. We don't have the players to comepete with the top 4 teams

We have improved personnel on last year and have more strength in depth. We finished four points off fourth last year, no reason why we can't improve on that.
We're 1/27th of the way through the season, now is not the time to think we know our new players or any improvements our returning squad have made.
Last night has just given the usual idiots (not you) a chance to post their negative BS.

Gentle has time, he deserves that much.
He will be rightly assessed, come the end of the season.
It could always turnout that his first expedition into the head-coach position will ultimately end in failure.

I thought Leeds defence was impressive and their handling was equally good .For a team who has struggled to create anything with the h/b's we've had over the last few seasons now was always going to be a struggle again. I think the score flattered Leeds a little and I thought our defence was very good at times last night but then we put the pressure on ourselves by making basic errors creep back in to our game.

Its a long season and its how you finish not how you start. I was feeling down on the drive home but its easy to over react especially with all the hype at the moment.
I have no doubt we will come good. For 55mins we made a fist of it and matched them. They maintained their intensity, we couldn't and we started to creak. They didn't get stronger we simply fell off the pace and team work in defence fell below that where we matched them for long periods. PG will put that right and as they play together the new faces will bond into the team. Some may talk about a one man team but I dont buy into that. Some players are just really important. Roby to Saints and Sinfield at Leeds are prime examples. Take them away and the team will not function as efficiently. Leeds would not have achieved anything like what they have done without Sinfield but they are not a one man team. Even in NRL Wests Tigers were not a force without Gareth Ellis and massively underperformed last year. For us Its about the bigger picture, Gareth will be a big player for us, we will become a cohesive unit and we will keep on progressing and win things under Adam Pearson. lets just be patient. As so many have said it just one game.

no point in panicking after 1 game. it will take time to gel the new players. our attack was poor but the leeds defence was also very good. was dissapointed with the last 20 when we laid down n had our bellies tickled tho.
about 4 years ago norwich got spanked 6 or 7 - 1 in their first league 1 game, but recovered to win the division with several games to go.- so as corporal jones used to say "DONT PANIC"

I'm as disappointed as everyone else after last night, but the overreaction to a single defeat is staggering. Anyone would think last night's game was the latest chapter in a ten game losing streak.

I thought Leeds were highly impressive and seemed determined to lay down a marker for the coming year. Whoever came up against Leeds would have found it difficult, especially when they went up through the gears after 55 minutes.

So, yes it was a disappointing result, yes the performance leaves some room for improvement, but it's game 1 out of a 27 game season.

Chin up everyone, it's never been easy supporting FC (as I'm sure we all know, old or young alike).

defensively we have had a real good work out. as we did in the derby too. but the attack simply isn't ready for competitive rugby. after all the big talk coming out for the hull camp its really hard to simply take it on the chin. why???? ive waited a long time for the start of the season and i feel like im still waiting. i rekon we will aventually play some decent rugby this season but for now its gonna be a bumpy ride

More that we've had a six year hype+disappointment streak, which does not immediately appear to have been broken by the top 4 talk + Ellis injury + ritual seeing-to at Headingley. Not loads of positives to take out of that game IMO.

Some of you need to get a grip no side has a divine right to be a top side and need to work to be so.Its early doors with a few new faces and 3 regular players out in Watts,Tickle and Ellis so need to be patient and if then at the end of the season nothing has changed you will have a good right to be up in arms.
