so if ur the coach of a team and lets says 5 people are not performing, these 5 people are going at the end of the season. Tell me how your going to motivate them?

TBF I dont think Agar is saying its not his team (I know Rule has). Agar obviously has a real issue with an element at the club and this element appear to be on their way soon. I would like to see if this makes a difference because although Agar has ALOT to prove the players attitude is what really bugs me.

I agree mate,but whats he suppose to do if there fine in training but dont take it out on to the pitch,my thought is half of them have no respect for him for whatever reasons.

First, I'd have the common sense not to tell them they were going until as late as possible. Second, I'd make them see that they are still proffessionals with a job to do and instill some pride into them (if this failed I'd at least make them realise they are in the shop window and playing well can only help them get a move to a good club). Third, I'd use up-to-date coaching techniques and tactics to make the players believe they can win games. Fourth, I'd command the respect of the players (simple things like not calling me by my christian name) and ensure there is discipline within the squad. As far as I can see, Agar has done none of these things.

With injuries that hasnt been possible. Maybe a few changes for Catalans but too many players coming back from long term injuries so not wise to throw them all into the team IMO.

But then if he can't command their respect he shouldn't be coaching!

That answer is a cop out, some people are born leaders and others are capable man managers and motivators... both these types of people would be able to get more out of the players than Agar.

Well if they haven't been told then it's even more Agar's fault, people don't just stop caring for no reason, it's the managers job to find out why and sort it out (even if only for the short term, before he gets rid). If it were the odd isolated case (i.e Thackray) then I could see the argument, but not if its half the team.

I'm going out now anyway, I've enjoyed this ding-dong as always.

A. Lets face it, the club hasn't been very lucky injury wise has it? Over that season and a half, how many games have we had a recognised (and fit) SH for instance?
B. The games he was in charge between John Kear leaving and Peter Sharp taking over. We played some lovely football.
C. Come on there, Tony Smith has some very high quality players to use. What he seems to have done is sort the discipline out (if rumours are to be believed) and tinkered about position wise. Too great effect that can't be denied.
D. Because we can, there is no relegation and we have a grade A licence, and a VERY loyal base support. I believe we haven't been the same club since Richard Swain left, he was a strong captain that seemed to keep the team moving in the same direction, Agar is bringing in some strong characters, top proffessionals, and I believe we will see a few departures in the close season.

Sometimes you just have to accept as a manager that people don't want to be there and certainly aren't going to listen to anything you have to say, even if you are the best man manager there is.

They may not have been told but they aren't idiots either so will have some idea they are not staying around.

The ones concerned should have a guilty conscience everytime it's mentioned that the bad apples are being shipped out, but I think they are past caring.

This mentality has gone on now since SM days and he highlighted it more then once as did John Kear but nothing was done about it, he just ended up getting shipped out because of them.

I don't care if any of them are the best players on the pitch the influence they are having on those around them and especially the youngsters needs to be nipped in the bud sharpest before they bring the whole club down with them.

This was the subject of the E-mail i sent James Rule. I have to say, judging by his reply, he aint about to retract that load of codswallop. Surely any coach worth his wages would be able to lead and inspire much in the way Tony Smith has. Carvell looks two yards faster and two stone lighter. My biggest fear is that despite our good signings, next season will see us not get the best from them as they are badly coached. Agar only has himself to blame for the backlash, i seem to remember this season being about "Redemption". His words not mine.
