Fair play mate. Things need to improve drastically, I don't have the answers, but these free schools are a stupid idea.

Yeah, looks fgantastic, as does the one on preston road. Still the same kids who went to teh old schools, same teachers too. Do you believe new buildings make people more intelligent or interested in learning?

If the kids dont want to learn then the Teachers are fighting a losing battle and some dont give a toss.

They're ran independently from local authority but still state funded. Basically anyone can set one up, teachers, parents, charities etc. And these unaccountable and unelected people get to dictate teaching methods and curriculum.

Not Teachers No....they have got the teachers who they want and who want to to teach.Id sooner my daughter go there instead of a rundown school.Also,with it being a acedemy,they have a lot more power in dealing with kids who are unruly.

Ok....yes i believe being in a new school will inspire them...the old Sirius hadnt changed from the old Kingston when i was there.Classrooms drab and leaking....Sirius is modern,comfortable,a good enviroment to learn in.

Aren't these new schools supposed to be more inspiring? Also some of the facilities are top notch. While it's not the most important part of the jigsaw it certainly helps.

Mate...i went round Sirius on a opening tour,i wanted to learn there...there was no stone left unturned for the kids to learn from and for discipline.

The area is a e.hole and needs flattening before any new school is built . What's happening to my old school Chiltern then ? . They'll be practically next door to each other.

Yeah, never been in person but I've seen it on a virtual tour, mightily impressive. A couple of families close to me have sent their kids there. Let's hope it keeps delivering.

Got told to send her to Hessle but after what i heard and saw about Sirius and what they wanted to achieve.....it was no contest,

The idea of the free schools is that the government doesn't run them and doesn't tell them how they should be run, they have some general outline rules on what the school should provide but its up to the headteacher and governors how its run, what it teaches, what the school hours are, what rate the teachers are paid etc.

I agree that there are risks with that and you need to check the quality BUT if the whole starting point of this debate is "Hull schools are crap" then maybe it says government doesn't have all the answers and maybe some enterprising local individuals might actually have some better ideas than the government on how to run a school?

Look at Hull FC since Adam Pearson has come in, he's a private individual with some fresh ideas and seems to have got the club moving in a positive direction, would it be better if instead of private individuals you had every club being run centrally by Nigel Wood and the RFL...?
