a decent coach with the background and calibre of PG would have got more out of them for certain
and thats without discussing the subs situation , the MOa issues etc etc

I do read on here often and I'm not dissagreeing with you about Agar, I too hope that Gentle will be the answer to take us back to the top but some people think its a done deal. The fact is he has not been a head coach before and may (And I really hope not) fail.

Maybe it is a wage issue.'"

Yes, but I think the point being made was that we have a non-fed space available even with Obst staying, it's only the quota spaces we have full. I believe it's:
Quota: O'Meley, Seymour, McKinnon, Heremaia, Obst.
Non Fed: O'Meley, Moa, Seymour, McKinnon.
So, for example, we could have kept Lauaki if we had cap space and the desire to.
This is one of the reasons I'm coming to believe it is more about the cap space than the quota spot as McRae is saying, and that perhaps Obst is on more money than he should realistically be.

If it is an Aussie they are after though they need rid of Obst as he takes up a valuable quota spot.

I'd guess obst is on £70-90k because we were desperate at the time. Way too much for a fringe player

I wouldn't be surprised, and it'll be why it's taking so long for him to go. An incredibly short-sighted signing that is biting us on backside in a big way now.

I hope that is the case, I'm just thinking that with no guarantee Obst is going anywhere we're taking a risk if we're holding out for an Aussie. Hope it pays off if we are.

would you think "biting us on the backside" is the best term for Sam Obst?? not exactly let us down has he or done anything against the club and if we had to run with him would do another sterling job when called upon , would you say thats a fair assesment, if anything maybe HE is thinking the move has now bitten HIM on the backside.... Iseem to remember we did this to someone else a short time ago (domic) to make way for incoming players that in hindsight was a cruel way to move players on who in reality have done nothing but their best for us?? AND I remember many saying after Sid moved it was the wrong descision
just trying to sit on the fence and look both ways here and feel a tad sorry for Sam TBH

Hardly a bite in the backside if we get rid of him, is it? Done a good job for one season, surplus to our needs now.

I mean the move to sign him on a 2-year deal is biting us on the backside, not him personally. I don't bear him any ill will at all, we just should never have given him 2 years. Our fault entirely (or at least the old regime's fault).

If we get rid, then no, no real damage. But it's hardly been ideal, has it?
And to be honest, I'm not really all that overboard on what his signing achieved. Probably wouldn't have crept into the playoffs without him, but then again an extra -kicking against Leeds is something I could have done without, personally.
