Shaul, Houghton, Jones, Taylor all start again in my eyes. Never understood the love in and hype, but we all start again. maybe a few posters would be best served forgetting the past too?

| I know it may only be talk so far from Andy Last as he's not been able to put the players through a game but I've been impressed in what he has said so far. Its clear he & Purtill have seen things that just haven't been working with the players and as such has said he is changing things but keeping it simple and understandable. I like the fact he wants each individual player to be responsible and know their role but also be responsible as a collective. I am quite excited to see what difference it has made to the the way we play with the changes he and Purtill have implemented so far.
He certainly sounds like he wants to have structure to their play both in defence and attack but also flair and support play which has been lacking for far too long. Hopefully Last & Purtill can deliver on that, also pleasing to hear him mention about the importance of improving and increasing our line speed in defence.

Agree with you. Having seen the games yesterday it’s clear we will have to adopt
A different playing style.
If we don’t , then the 6 again restart will kill us.

| Quote ="Rocknrolla69er"Il simplify it
When Masi is fit he tends to be in the matchday squad over Brown, I've rarely seen them both named on the bench, if they have been I take it back, but you'd have to show me some stats to back it up. So it would be Brown replacing Matongo no need for another signing as you've put I t, that scenario doesn't even come into the equation. Props would be Taylor, Satae, Bowden, Brown, Savelio/Sao (if needed) Fash, and I'm sure another season on we d have more prospects coming through to supplement them
I'm saying I'd now move Brown above Masi for squad selection, as I've said I don't think Masi is assertive Enough, the stats back that up he has very low carry numbers when he does play.
I also don't think 10 games per season is the sign of a youngish prop who's pulling up trees. When you look at Partington and Bynre for example, there's no comparison.
Brown can be the type of player you've described rather than Masi as Brown offers more and in my eyes has the potential to be a prop who plays 15-20 games a season rather than an average of 10. And 10 not very busy games at that.
As for Savelio when he does play he looks brilliant. He produces the goods, he's also been at the club a lot shorter period than Matongo and has far more Ability, I agree he needs to be on the pitch more, so I'd give him the rest of this season to prove he can keep clear of injurys, if he's constantly injured again , he's another I'd release, as we seem to stockpile players who are injured way too much.
That's my opinion. I stand by it.'"
I pretty agree with you have wrote.
The only thing I dont agree with is the Masi appearances, I don't think it's fair to take an average over 5 years as the first two years he was 20/21 and was establishing himself in a superb pack (2016/17), probably the best in the league. I think it's a better indication yo to look at how many games ge played in 2018/19, which averages over 20.

I agree but we do have athletic forwards and should be suited to this faster game
It looks to me that Albo will quite rightly get the 6 shirt and i hope we also go for speed and have Ratu on the wing.
One thing i would do is have Connor on the bench.Move Jamie Shaul to 9 if its not working for Houghton or he is given a rest and then move Connor to full back.
Shaul could be devastating in a new role at 9 and i can see clubs using faster elusive players in this role in the future.

| To be fair I forgot about the time he had off due to a bereavement so maybe abit unfair me stating 10 game average over five years, I'd say he has to show something this season or I'd still let him go and have Brown given the game time.
Harsh as it is, that's just the nature of the beast.

Why?
Its now just another half back position.
Dummy half runs is exactly why he would be outstanding.

Then it's always been a half back position, hookers haven't been hookers for donkey's years (apart from the tackling, of course).

I would agree with that looking back but i think the game has changed and clubs will now be looking for players with speed and elusive running.
I can see Darryl Clarke becoming the next hot property for the NRL.

| So what we hoping for from what hopefully will look like a new Hull FC team?
So far from the team since Radford left, we've heard about lack of professionalism and a cozy atmosphere where players weren't picked on merit.
Last and some of the senior players have made the right noises about putting right the wrongs.
I'm looking forward to Sunday so much and can't wait to see what Andy's team will look and perform like, now he's stepped out of Radford's shadow.
I hope we build on spontaneity in attack and massively improve on our defence which is the worst in the league.
I wish Andy the best of luck in staking a claim for the head coaches job
I hope to see the type of performance we first witnessed in round 1 and the team put in an 80 minute performance.

| It will take a long time to step out of Radford's amateurish ill-disciplined shadow. He should have been fired in 2015 after those shocking first 2 seasons.
Anyway he's gone now. The only this is we will need a circuit breaker. Lasty is Radford is LAsty. They were a pair and I would love to see Lasty be successful but I feel if he had what it takes he'd have stepped up by now. Was he an enabler under LR?
I really would like to see a disciplined performance and DEFENCE at the forefront of our play. I was so glad to hear LAsty talk about the D
Defence is the barometer of any team. Always has been and always will be. Ask any NFL team. Similar concepts of the game.

Last needs to be given his chance, who knows what he was allowed to do under Radford. We won two challenge cups with Lee at the helm, nobody can ever deny him that. He's gone, time to move on. I remember a lot of coaches in the past saying lots of things, the players need to deliver on the pitch, we'll see the early signs on Sunday hopefully.

| I don't think that's far off Dave, although I think Sao would start with Savellio on the bench. Sao has been a big minutes player for us so far.
With the noises being made about Brown we may see him instead of Cator with us having a back on the bench although we can move Griff.

| Quote ="Rocknrolla69er"Matongo 53 appearances in what 5 seasons
It's not enough.
I'd release him he's 24'"
Oh come on, it's not even close to 5 seasons is it?
Debut in September 2015 where he played one S8 game, 2016 was never going to a season where he got lots of games given our lack of injuries, and in actual fact didn't get a game all season. 2017 was much the same getting only 7 games (possibly 9 from one source).
the last two seasons he's played 23 and 20 games respectively, he had a shoulder injury in 2019 which put him out for a fair while.
So your 53 in 5 seasons looks somewhat ignorant of the fact he was never going to get a chance to play any/many games in his first two full seasons.
if you want to make a comparison, Scott Taylor played only 52 games in four full seasons at KR at the start of his career, given their actual strength in depth compared to ours I'd say that's comparable in terms of appearances per season and opportunity to play. We had a load of props in front of Masi and very few injuries in 2016, he probably wasn't even really ready.
Simply basing appearances at the start of your career is not a good yardstick at all, that said, do I think he should be doing a bit better for his size, yes, but then not many have shone in the last few seasons have they.
I'd keep hold, indeed I'd keep Fash as well, we got shot of Green which I thought was a mistake but we can't be getting rid simply on the basis players aren't coming through as the next Burgess and/or not playing many games early in their careers.

| Hes 24 and not pushing on, I don't understand why anyone doesn't see that, he's not pushing our starting props, he's not holding down a place. He's not assertive like Brown when he plays, his Carry stats make him look very lazy.
I didn't mention Burgess, I mentioned Byrne and Partington at Wigan, I also mentioned Jack Brown all who can be compared to Matongo.
It's a valid point I stand by it.
Jack Brown over Matongo, and if that's the case I'd let the 24 year old 8th choice prop go
