| Not for one second do I believe Evans has been as good as he should have been, but think some of the comments going round social media are uncalled for. It’s not worked out, he knows it, and he’s moving on. He seems a genuinely sound guy off the pitch and from reading has had a pretty rough couple years with his family. Does it excuse his performances? Not really, but have a quick think before bagging the bloke on mass.

We shouldn't have signed him in the first place tbh. He was okish last season, but he's been well under this year.

Well said. It didn't work out. A poor signing in retrospect but there's always a risk that these things don't work out. Good luck to him for the future, hopefully we can use the quota space wisely.

| Wondering/hoping that we have a mid season signing up our sleeves as paying a player off early is unusual otherwise

| If it’s a mid season signing, what position would you be going for ? A big forward or a pacey back ? Personally I would be looking at a big rough arris forward but there isn’t many knocking about

| Good news for the club andvthe player, I've read he has had alot of stuff going on in his personal life, so think it's best for him.
Can't fault his effort, but age and the game changing has made him less effective.
Hopefully have a player identified, I'd be looking at the backrow rather than prop.

| See Satae has offers, still 50/50 on him, one of the best props I the league on his day, but that doesn't happen enough for me.
Would probably rather him stay, but wouldn't be devastated if he went.

Wouldn't be getting into a bidding war for him. Seen a few mention Makatoa, which would make sense if it was Sataes replacement.
Can we get Whitbread in to replace Evans?

This, don't panic make sure we get the right man, Wakefield signed Gale so looks like they are preparing for life in the Championship.

| All speculation but perhaps if some of the younger players haven't featured yet due to cap issues maybe the release of Evans will allow the room to give them a try?

| I think we’ll replace evans with a non-quota player. I don’t see us bringing anyone over from Aus right now and no SL club are going to let us bring a decent quota player in now.
I can’t see any decent back rowers available in SL either. It’s going to be tough to recruit. I think the best option is to look at bringing in a prop and then roll the dice with a back rower from the champ. We need long term solutions not stop gap signings

| By all accounts it is a mutual consent termination with no pay-off for Evans, perhaps a good deal for all involved

Hasnt put enough effort in this season so think it looks like he wll go.
Got himself into shape but hasnt used it to any good effect.
Sorry to see him go if he does but still a plodder in defence and needs to do more to become a top front row

| Lachlan Fitzgibbon to super league. Doubt we could get him over this season as he plays regularly in NRL.
At 29 he’s a great age and would be class in super league. He will already have a good understanding with Cliff & Tex and it should help all 3 players settle better.
Appears to have real pedigree for SL, hopefully a leader as well. The name Fitzgibbon alone gets me excited

My suspicion is that you (Hull) probably are not, and I think there’s some value in being pedantic about it. I’m going to overdo it to emphasise the point, but let’s use a Rovers example first. When Mike Smith was chief executive at Rovers he’d sometimes be asked during fans’ forums whether the club was spending up to the cap. He’d typically say something like ‘we spend the full value of the cap’. Implying ‘yes’ but to me strongly indicating ‘no’ - because he could have just said ‘yes’ or ‘we’re at full cap’ if that was the case. The extra words create a little bit of ambiguity and my assumption was that was intentional. A way of avoiding input from the speculate-to-accumulate sages without having to actually lie.
A reminder here that the cap only applies to the top 25 earners, but the overall spend on players could easily include the entire first team squad… and might even be stretched to cover the academy and so on. Although that’d be pushing it.
The quote that people thought confirmed Hull are spending the cap, in fact doesn’t. [iMaybe[/i, technically.
‘We can only spend £2.1 million on players, which this club does year in year out.’
No mention of the cap as the reason that the spend is limited.
Hull won’t be miles under the cap, even if my cynicism is justified. And there’s no doubting you’re getting poor value from some contracts. But I’d bet you box of 12 Lidl choc ices that we’re at least sailing in the grey area between spend and cap spend.
To be clear, I’m not suggesting any form of dishonesty. I’m suggesting intentionally precise use of language.

Rovers bound. Replacement for Kane Linnett.
