How does the voucher scheme work if all season ticket holders are included whether they attend or not?

Say if on Friday 8,000 season ticket holders stay away then use the voucher exchange scheme for the Saints game as well as attending themselves, then 8,000 people would have been counted for both games.

Not that it matters as you'd rubbish the attendance figure anyway.

I provided the link but cannot say either way whether Hull Fc do this or not. There have been many times when an attendance is called and I am stood there thinking were are the rest hiding.

If the numbers announced are 'tickets sold' rather than people through the turnstiles then they don't get counted twice. They were counted once for the game they missed and once for the game they attended. If anything it could lead to under-reporting of the crowd at the second game if the pass holder attends and gives the voucher to a mate. Both would be in the ground but only the pass holder would be counted on the announced attendance.

For H&S reasons the number of people actually in the stadium has to be known and recorded somewhere. The bulk will come from turnstile figures with some extra from corporates and guests. This number doesn't have to be announced but is the one that counts as far as the authorities are concerned. It would also neatly get around the other issue I had which was the mismatch between crowds announced and income from ticket sales causing a problem with HMRC. All the club has to do is use the officially endorsed figures to prove how many people were actually attending each game.

So in short, it is perfectly possible to run two independent attendance 'registers' and only announce one of them. Whether the club do this or not I don't know, but there's no reason why they couldn't if they wanted to.

So for a game where a spare ticket is used are you saying that it won't be counted on the attendance? That would seem to me to be even more against H&S than the other way around.

It would be counted on the actual attendance but maybe not on the announced attendance. Depends on how exactly the computerised turnstile system works and whether vouchers are logged against individual pass holders or counted as 'walk up' sales.

The 11k+ figure was announced in the ground and this would be from people through the turnstiles etc. No way was there only 8063 there.

the vouchers are not logged in any way, each rotation of the turnstiles is used for the H&S figures for the North, South and East stands. (unless they've changed the systems since the KC was built)

So in summary when the announcer gets the microphone and says 'todays matchday attendance is 11500' or whatever it is he says then it might not actually be todays matchday attendance? That's back to my original point earlier in the thread about why not.

I remember when I used to collate the attendances at The Boulevard. I would give someone the figure and it was like chinese whispers because you could guarantee that by the time the announcer gave the figure 400 would have been added onto the total I gave!!!

This happened every game, I never did understand why they did it unless it was to account for all the people that came through the back doors!!

Can FC Voices try to get an answer from the club about the process for those that are interested?

The guy in the South Stand on the cash turnstyle records each supporter that comes through, and whether they pay as Adult, Student, Junior etc. Also, what happens for the Challenge Cup games if its just tickets sold? You don't need to take your pass in to exchange the voucher for a ticket do you? But I would bet they don't announce a crowd of over 8000 for the Oldham game.

I'm not denying your mate is telling you the truth. I'm interested to understand how that figure is calculated and how that figure then gets to the match day attendance that's announced... and also if there's a seperate attendance announced to sponsors or the RLF/SMC etc.

I can only go on the Boulevard but most of the time it was spot on, as Karen says sometimes it would be a couple of hundred out but we used to do meter readings before we opened and as the turnstiles closed and the figure we gave was the actual match day attendance, thats paying customers and season passes coming through the turnstiles. As I understood it and I'm far from an expert but the more people in the ground the more you had to pay to the tax man so to "up" your gate figures would cost you more money.

On cup games we always had a representative from the other club shadowing us and checking our figures and both parties had to agree on the amount of money taken and attendance figures. I can honestly say to my knowledge in the 16 years I worked the turnstiles it was all done above board and correctly, the amount of money and tickets taken always tallied to the attendance figures given out, except on the odd occasion when a few hundred might have been added which we put down to typo errors

Oh yes, but they can't try and sack me this time as I don't work for them any more, that and the person in question is long gone!!!
