I agree about us letting ourselves down in front of the cameras, but it's not like Saints have been setting Sky Sports alight either, is it? But even when they're s**t reasons are found to gush about them, or excuses offered.

| For instance - Average Aussie gets $300k - $400k, even on the old exchange rate that's around £125k-£150k where's the value in that, even back then?
NRL salary cap has increased around 34% since 2005. Meaning that 3-400k would have been 200-250k. At old rates is around £60-£80k more value for money.
So you can state currency as being a big factor if you want, and it's certainly helped when going the other way, in terms of the Burgess' and the younger lads playing in the regional leagues (Pietersen, Sherriffe etc.). But in the context you're mentioning it in, it isn't a major factor.

The prices clubs are paying for poor quality australians now would buy better quality ones at the exchange rate from 4 years ago. It's pretty simple. the top players were never coming here anyway.

| So 4 years ago we could offer a nrl player 100,000 pounds, it would have been $250,000.
Now it's $148,000.
That clearly has no effect though.

| It's also good to know that the salary cap increase in the nrl has been spread equally between the players.

You said average Aussie, why would you offer one £100k in the first place? Especially when he's earning more than the old exchange rate would have given him now.
If he could have earned $3-400k back then he wouldn't have come back then, would he? It's not the exchange rate allowing him to earn more in the NRL, it's the cap.

Not really Jake...currency strength is relative not absolute
If a loaf of bread costs £1 in the UK and $2 in Aus then simply speaking, the level of balance for those currencies is 1 to 2, just because it needs $2 to be the same as £1 doesnt mean it is weaker (See Purchasing Power Parity).
Now if you could buy $2.5 per £1 due to the market conditions, then the $ would be a weaker currency.
This isnt 100% accurate but about as simple as I could make it.

Nice, but completely irrelevant. We're not talking trading, we're simply talking conversion of wage.

| Does anybody know what East Hull FC Fan is talking about?
Anyway like I've already said hopefully the young players can see a route to the first team now and hopefully PG won't block it with Poore like signings.

| Original post was a good one. Great to see young players getting a chance and taking it. Being petty and saying it's only down to injuries is really missing the point. They are playing and the are doing well.

It's not petty, I'm saying they clearly are good enough so why are we wasting money on overseas players when it could have secured talented British players like Eastmond, Ashton, Tomkins, Graham, all the Burgess', Moore currently. Smith, Walker, Farrell, Robinson in the past and Hock, Mossop and Briscoe in the future.

It is a little.
I'm talking about Hull but if you want to talk SL in general, we can't compete with the NRL of RU that is just a fact. Look around at most teams, the amount of young talent around is there to see. More than ever before from what I see.
