| I always rated Holdsworth very highly and expected him to make a real impact with you. I really think he could still be a top player for you but I just don’t see the structure and platform for him as it stands. He’s not a lead the team around kind of player but he is, behind a solid pack, the kind of player who can fit a structure extremely well and add that bit of quality when its needed.
If he does go I do think he’ll be seen as the one who got away, he just needs a settled structure and be allowed to develop a partnership with someone.
Trouble I think you’ll have is if you do go for a half in the mould of a Michael Dobson, Danny Brough then you’ll find he’d fit far better with Holdsworth rather than Miller who will be looking to develop into a MD/DB type half.
Could be a case of throwing the baby out with the bathwater if AP’s subtext is being interpreted correctly

| I think people underestimate the effect that Meli's reckless late challenge had on Holdsworth for the remainder of the season after he eventually got back. True he showed what he was capable of on occasion after that - notably the semi final where had he not been playing we wouldn't have won.
He seems to me to be a bit of a confidence player anyway and that serious head injury that he sustained hurt him at least as much mentally as it did physically. He played a long way in front of the line after that and seemed to me to be (subconsciously at least) protecting himself a bit. There's no doubt he has talent, in particular a top class kicking game which was the best we've seen for years, but maybe he's not (or is no longer) dynamic enough for what we want/need.

I think not being tackled once in the last two home games confirms this. Didn't see the Huddersfield game, but I guess that game might have been the same.

| I think Holdsworths a good player and hopefully he is more consistent if he stays. One thing worries me though and that's his goalkicking. We have been spoil with Danny Tickle. Perhaps one reason for looking to change is to upgrade our goal kicking. I think DJ, Crooks and Westie are all about par. I suppose Miller's the only potential upgrade but who knows if he is any good.

| we've brought someone in to play in the halves every year since 2007
Holdsworth has the potential to be a match winner but he, like a lot of the squad, is inconsistent which is whats fustrating. I think it would be very harsh to offload him and would put a lot more pressure on the guy coming in to perform

| I rate DJ and his kicking game at times last season was outstanding. That 40/20 at millenium magic sticks long in the memory. But I think we need someone with that air of unpredictability about him who is able to stick his head through the line and try things. Rangi Chase is no longer an option so I would be happy with Sammut. He really impressed me with some of his off the cuff plays and tries last year. With Bulls financial problems not exactly looking solved I would offer cash plus DJ. Sammut at 6 and a developing Miller at 7 with Horne as back up. I would take that.

The wording is interesting. Seems to indicate that he isn't happy with things for some reason. Hasn't he settled in the area? (Does he even live in the area?) Does he want to be back in Oz? Doesn't he get on with others at the club?

I believe he lives in the Swanland area.

| So if it DJ that wants to leave, fair enough, if hr doesn't want to be here then we should let him go and look for a replacement (not Witt though).
It seems that a few people were a bit quick to criticize AP early in this thread.

Not that interesting.
He wants out so we'll have to accomodate that.
Gentle thought he was integral to his team.
He was the wrong signing and a lot to do with why our ex-coach is now on the other side of the world.

| I think he probably isn't "settled" because he knows we probably want rid. His agent will want to be "selling" a player who's moving because of "personal reasons" rather than because his club think he's not up to it whilst at the same time financially it may be best for him to get paid off. Makes it a sensitive time for his agent I guess so we're unlikely to get the truth until after the event if ever. It does look like he's on his way though.

Gotta laugh otherwise we'd cry.

We'll be ok.
Where would we be without a bit of adversity.
Onwards and upwards.

If you're looking for consistency then Sammut is definitely not the man for the job. He will provide a lot of entertainment and moments of brilliance but that will be scattered amid a whole lot of poor displays. I like the guy but reckon he can be infuriating too.

So who would you see as a realistic option for us at stand off if Holdsworth departs? Based on who would realistically want to join FC or whose club may well welcome the cash we can offer?
Funny how a few months changes everything at FC. I'm sure I wouldn't have been the only one on here in conversation with a friend on the way to the semi final against Wire saying 'all our hopes rest on DJ today and it's massive he's fit'.

I honestly think Holdsworth was the best option on the table, he needs another year with Miller, settled and behind a decent performing pack. Not sure thats an option now as he looks to be outward bound. I don't think it was any surprise that when the pack played well he looked good. Miller needed to offer more options, and act as a foil for Holdsworth, but the biggest gap was the lack of an attacking coach and a ball playing full back who can hit the line and ask questions.
Just my views as someone who has only seen the tv games.

I think he needs another year so agree, but he does appear to want out.........
TBH I was never a big fan of his.
