| Horne, McDonnell and Houghton for me, but Horne is a clear first as everyone on here can see, except for one troll,
After Horne, I can see the case for Westerman, Lineham and others. Not much in it really and Lynch is getting up there now after a slow start. I can see him being up there again by the end of the season

You are making your self look a bit stupid.'"
I don't think 20 Hull fans is an adequate sample size, really. Evidently so, since nobody out of these 20 can reason with me how Horne has allegedly "carried us for the full year" without resorting to just mere opinion.
Horne hasn't been excellent for the full year. He's found a slight peak of form, that's it.
Although it's irrelevant to the topic of this thread, I will be proven right given the end of the year. I'm not hoping for this, it's just fact.
You need to follow my argument properly. Try to actually reason why I may be wrong other than using the 'wisdom of the crowd' argument to back up your claim.

| Can you not read, in my last post I mentioned why he had been excellent.
This thread is called half way through top 3 players, so even if Horne has a poor 2nd Hal of the season, he has still been one of our top three players at this point, so you won't be proven wrong at all.

| It makes me laugh, he claims that 20 people isn't enough to form an opinion, but his one man campaign is good enough to suggest Horne hasn't been a top player for us this year.

You cannot be proven right at the end of the year when we're talking only about the first half of the season. Logic, innit? Also, your opinion about how Horne will play for the second half of the season is just about as far from 'fact' as it's possible to be.

1 - Try again, I can provide examples of why Horne's season so far has only been mediocre with a recent peak of form. Do I really have to go through a game-by-game analysis showing the games previously at the start of this season where he's shown no spark or creativity at all or made mistakes? I expect more from a halfback than this, so should every other Hull fan. Therefore he shouldn't be in your top 3. Simple.
2 - When I say "Horne hasn't been excellent for the full year", I mean the year so far. Woops.
3 - Yes I can. When the end of the year comes around. It will show that Horne's season was mediocre at the start, a peak in form, and then drops back to being mediocre again while we get knocked out of the play-offs by a team that won't regard as highly a player's performances such as Horne's as you do. Understand now? Good.
4 - Trivial and pathetic contribution.

Well, give me a reason to believe his season so far has been anything other than mediocre with only a recent peak of form.
You can't, because it hasn't.
What you said previously can just be deduced to "he's been good", which is mere opinion as I said.

The only elaborate joke is the fickle attitude that a lot of sports fans seem to have.
Not as many people at all (except for the fans who favour Horne over other players because he's local) were saying Horne has been the best player so far 4/5 weeks/rounds ago. So why now? Even though he's found some form, he still performed to his mediocre level for the majority of the years. The things that he's now doing in games is what you should demand from your halfback for the majority of the year as a bare minimum. Therefore, he should be nowhere near the top 3 players so far.
What about this do people not understand?

Nobody's eating humble pie because Horne's decided to put in performances that a proper halfback would consider to be a bare minimum for the past 4 games. He's a halfback, he's meant to assist tries, but should be doing this every game, not just for the last few.

The stuff about him only being popular because he's local is undiluted bollox trotted out by folk with no other argument. Horne's had plenty of critics over recent seasons. He's getting praise now because he's playing well now. What part of that do you fail to understand?
And he's been getting praise pretty much from the first game he played. The reason why he's 'only just now' being mentioned as being in our top 3 players so far this season is because this is the first time anyone's asked the question.
You clearly have an agenda where Horne is concerned. Or you're trolling. Either way it's making you look daft.

Did you ring 5Live last night suggesting City hire Terry Venables for £5 million for a week's work?
These 2 instances are biggest loads of idiotic tripe I've ever heard/read in my life, seems too coincidental that they'd happen less than a day apart from different people.

This is the pinnacle of daftness in a thread full of daft posts by your good self.
He's only played well for the last 4 games? Really? Deary me.
I think you've given away the real reason behind your posts though. You were obviously one of those who wrote him off and you're simply not man enough to admit you might have been wrong. Poor show.

My favourite bit was 'halfbacks are supposed to assist tries'. So he's doing what he's supposed to do, and doing it to a higher standard than most others, then? The idea that four good games have propelled him to the top of the assists chart is too stupid for words.

Ad hominem again!
You can't address the argument, so you attack the arguer.
My premises stand:
There's nothing that Horne's done this year that can't be done comfortably by another capable halfback given the promise that the rest of the squad has. He has had the majority of a mediocre season thus far, with only peak in form for the previous few games, performing at the standard we should demand of our halfback to play at every week. This peak does not justify the other mediocre performances Horne has put in this season so far.
And the conclusion:
We will NOT be making any impact in the playoffs against the top teams if he's in your top 3 and your standards stay the same. More importantly, if Gentle's standards reflect yours.
I'd love to be proven wrong folks, but it seems you're all incapable of showing me instances that show that Horne has performed at this level for the majority of the year.
Hint: have a look at the games and see what he's done, or the lack of what he's done.

People aren't addressing your argument because you don't seem to have one. Quite apart from how well you think Horne has been performing or not, your assertion that his abilities as a top four halfback have any bearing at all on how he has compared to his teammates is complete and utter nonsense.

| Even if you prove that Horne assisted tries in games other than the previous 4 you still of you work ahead of you. You still need to prove that given the promise that the rest of the squad that there's anything that 'Horne's done this year that can't be done comfortably by another capable halfback'.
Also try assists are a pretty arbitrary statistic considering it's only judged by the last player to touch the ball before the try scorer. Doesn't automatically show that Horne's in the top 3 players of the year, or that his performances lately are anything other than a peak of form.

This is more like it. Now we're arguing properly. Thank God for that.
Although, all you've seemed to have done is copy and paste third party sources that mention Horne. I don't really care about what people say about Horne, I want to know special things he does each game to warrant a place in the top 3 players thus far. A "methodical kicking game" is too opinion based for me. Sorry.

Horne’s 2nd game:
For the second successive week Holdsworth forged a fruitful partnership with Horne, with the duo complementing each other in a combination Hull seem set to stick with for the foreseeable future

His 3rd game
Despite missing key playmaker Daniel Holdsworth because of concussion, Hull proved more than a match for last season's beaten Grand Finalists for 60 minutes of a tight and entertaining affair.
On his 350th Hull performance, Richard Horne's methodical kicking game and his side's robust defence earned them a platform to win the game, before Warrington cut loose as Hull fell away.

Sorry.

| Quote ="BraddersFC"Even if you prove that Horne assisted tries in games other than the previous 4 you still of you work ahead of you. You still need to prove that given the promise that the rest of the squad that there's anything that 'Horne's done this year that can't be done comfortably by another capable halfback'.'"
Nobody needs to prove anything of the sort. He's not being compared to 'another capable halfback'. He's being compared to the rest of the squad. That's [iour[/i squad by the way, so your assorted mumblings about top 4 sides are also irrelevant.
Quote ="BraddersFC"Also try assists are a pretty arbitrary statistic considering it's only judged by the last player to touch the ball before the try scorer. Doesn't automatically show that Horne's in the top 3 players of the year, or that his performances lately are anything other than a peak of form.'"
Classic. The stats destroy your argument so now you have to attack them.
