That's probably what every S/L club wants, not just Hull,
I hoped that when the franchise system came in clubs wouldn't keep having to go out bringing Aussies/Kiwis over and instead would bring on the youngsters, but unfortunately that hasn't happened at most clubs,

Not if they had excellent halves.
When they had one or two halves missing who move to 6?
Wigan are losing Leuilui and Finch is ooc, if Russell was all that it would be easy for Tomkins to move to 6.

Obviously because Gentle see's more in Russel than he does in Lyne or others.
We know the youth system has been left to go to rubbish under the previous regime, and if it means we have to loan in youngsters till it has been rectified then so be it. At the end of the day, why should Gentle give a player games when he sees no future for that player?

3 of the 4 are contracted for next season, Linehams on a full time deal what about moving Sharp to fb and giving him a run? Or Crooks in the centres and Turner to fb?

Why move Sharp to FB???? We may as well get Agar back to coach then, then we can move 5 or 6 players around to accommodate a position. Gentle obviously has very little faith in our youth fullbacks that he is bringing in a better player from another club, i call that wise management. He may think some of the youngsters are not ready for the step up but have a lot of potential in the future.

| Moving from the wing to fb is hardly a big change and it gives one of our youngster experience.
I dont like moving players around but its better than giving another sides youngsters a game.

Perhaps because Russell is a FB and Sharp & Turner are not and it means moving players around for the sake of it plus both Sharp and Turner are doing very well in their current positions so why move them.
We have moved for a loan of a young player who is a FB not a utility player or winger come FB but pretty much an out & out FB according to the Wigan fans who have seen him and rate him.
We have Reece who TBH has so far failed to make the grade and Jack briscoe again who is down the order at present which could be for any number of reasons the fact the younger players never got a look at training let alone 1st team action under the previous regime may well have played a major part in that. There is no point just throwing kids in if they aint ready as it destroys them and I'm pretty sure Gentle & McRae will have weighed up all the options as to what is best for the club and team.

If anything you've just pointed out the biggest benefit of the loan signing yourself, it will hopefully give us time to find the right long term signing rather than just having to commit to one who may be available now.

It is a massive change to be a FB than a winger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! particularly for a younger player with little experience of reading the play so knowing instinctively when and where to be both in defence and attack.
I know when I first started to play RL I was asked to try FB and I was shocking but ok at centre and if I had to fill in on the wing.

I think the fact both have struggled to hold the position down at that level says a lot. With Briscoe, he's been around long enough to question why he hasn't pushed for a first team place by now, and I think if it wasn't for his last name he wouldn't be mentioned so much. In the case of Lyne, he's simply not a fullback, and IMO experience won't change that. If anything our best like-for-like prospect is arguably Shaul, but he's way off playing SL and it would be detrimental to both him and us to put him in.
We knew before the season started that the one position for which we had no cover was fullback, it's why plenty of us were concerned with McKinnon's injury record. This is one of the few occasions where a loan signing is actually better for both the short and long term IMO.

Like i've already said the easiest thing to do is Horne for fb, Ellis or Nicklas to 6.
The rest is just giving examples of other alternatives rather than give a wigan youngster a run.

But the thing is, of the 4 players you seem outraged he'll be keeping out (and there's actually no guarantee of that, all the blurb I've seen has said he'll be considered, not that he'll go straight in), only 1 is a realistic alternative:
Reece Lyne - clearly not a fullback, and I don't think half a season of SL will change this, he'll just pressured even more.
Jack Briscoe - he'll be 21 this year and he's still not had a sniff of SL rugby. I wonder when people will let it go about him just because he's got a big brother who's good.
Danny Nicklas - was steady going forward early season, but weak defensively, and looked hopelessly out of his depth against Wigan.
Jamie Ellis - the best option, and the one I actually expect us to go with. We still need a plan b, though.

As I've just said, I actually think we'll go with that, it's only been said that he'll compete for a place, not that he'll definitely be given one.
But the other alternatives you've given are worse. See what I've been saying to Tony Soprano on the elevated rivalry thread to see my views on loaning players, I'm hardly an advocate. However, I can see why it is suitable in this case.

jack aint played at 1 for 2seasons,since been a average wing. Last few games looked ok in the centre, looks his best position. Reece missed 1st few games with hamstring injury then played centre for a few games as 20s didnt have much of a team due to loans n 1st team. Reece at 19 has the attacking instinct of a fullback, needs more confidence and authority in defence though! but at 19 n a handfull of games in the position and the rest of the season an off season and next year i wont be as fast to write him off! Seen the improvments in sharp in just a matter of months of gentle being here!

Because the combination of
1. Russell
6. Tomkins
7. Finch
could be better than
1. Tomkins
6. Finch
7. ?
They won't be playing a fb on the wing, the positions cant be interchanged, Hullgb said so.
