| More of an issue for me would be that, someone who is classed as a resident of England and plays for 'his' country (England) is still classed as 'foreign' overseas player... Not saying it's right but surely he shouldn't be a quota player....

Have to agree with you on this, just cos other sports & countries are doing this I don't think we should follow.
The England games aren't hugely supported anyway but this just makes us more of a laughing stock if you ask me.
I've got nothing against Chase as a player, he's been great for Cas this year but I would much rather give Lomax a shot at it. He has stepped up this year for Saints & played really well so why not?
That's where I think we are behind internationally, the fact Oz & Kiwis aren't afraid to pick people on form regardless of age.
For years now players have been picked in positions they haven't played in all year just to get them on the park.
Sinfield at 6 or 9
Farrell at 6
Horney on the wing

Very good point surely he'd then be "English" & only count on the non-fed list?
What are people thoughts on this BTW? Guessing it's going to be more of the same. =#0000FF[url=http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/england-in-bid-for-manly-sea-eagles-star-daly-cherry-evans-as-2011-nrl-grand-final-looms/story-e6frexnr-1226155205329Cherry-Evans for England?[/url

| What a farce and what a kick in the teeth to the young lads coming through.
How the RLIF can justify allowing Chase to play for England, less than 12 months after representing the NEW ZEALAND Maoris and the EXILES just beggers belief.
It should be if your not born in England, then you can't represent England. I don't agree with the heritage ruling either to be honest but allowing Chase is beyond a joke, he's only been in the country three seasons. Also you should only be able to play for one national side during your career.

| Dont see how we can be anyones laughing stock, the oz team is littered with non nationals. I cant say im a big fan of playing for a country where you werent born but why do we always have to lose out to take the moral high ground. How many players play for countries they werent born in. I say play him and see how he goes. If he isnt better than an english kid then drop him.
All in all id prefer a blanket ban on this sort of thing but until then just play to the rules of the game

| As the last poster pointed out the Oz team has a number of non nationals....I can see why no-one in NZ knows much about Chase but I think it's abit harsh to call him an average player....however I'd say he would be nowhere near as highly rated on these shores without Danny Orr partnering him at 7, who effectively gives Chase a free reign to operate (in my opinion).
This happens in other sports....not saying it's correct but if you can't beat them, join them.

| The thing that always gets me about these things is that everyone seems to concentrate their bluster on whether or not it is right, and overlook the motivations behind the player doing it, as well as the consideration of whether or not it is worthwhile. What's a complete joke is that the only reason he's interested in playing for England is because he can't get a look in for NZ, and it was exactly the same for Fa'asavalu.
People can claim that it's a good move because it will make us stronger all they like, but the reality is that feeding off the rejects of the 2 strong nations will only ever mean that we stay weaker in those positions in which we do, because that's precisely why they can't get a game. It's effectively a damage limitation exercise, as whilst it might shorten the gap it will never, ever close it, so if this is our attitude we may as well call it a day for the England national side.
I'm sure some may reply to this with the other argument that 'the Aussies do it', but that's not strictly true. Yes, they court non-nationals for their national side. The difference is that they do it with players who [iare[/i wanted by their home nation, which gives the double advantage of weakening the opposition whilst making them stronger. I still don't think it's right, but I can see the wisdom in it. What they aren't doing is ringing round the likes of Liam Higgins and saying 'Do you know what mate, England have ignored you for the duration of your career, fancy a Green & Gold jersey?' They leave that to the Serbs, and it's the same reason why the Serbs will never catch us.

| What about the issue of trying to reduce the amount of foreigners in our game in order to develop our youth?
Yeah you can only have a limited number of Aussies/ kiwis playing for your club ( I know even this is rubbish now but eh) cos we want to be competitive on the international scene. Er but we don't mind filling our national team with said Aussies/ kiwis.
Joke . End of

I'm soooooo glad you don't work as a talent scout for Hull mate lol. Widdop is awesome on a different level to Chase I'm afraid, it's a whole different ball game out there and it's his rookie season. If it hadn't been for the spectacular season by Cherry-Evans he was on for the Dally M.
Also read Macca wanted Cherry-Evans for England aswell? What a muppet!

Sorry state of affairs when we have to resort to picking foreigners to play for ENGLAND.
I cannot ever understand an individual wanting to play for any other country than their own. For me it show a lack of respect for his/her own country.

| It stinks and the RFL has once again stooped to a low level.
Why not ask the NRL to field two teams and call one England or maybe we can just hire in who we want. Sorry this has lost me I like the internationals and I want to see English players taking on the Kiwi's at the KC, appears I am watching mercenaries.

Garbage. How can someone who was born in England be less English than someone who was born in NZ, didn't come to England until he was in his mid 20's and has only been here about 3 years?

| I think macca' and Rfl need to take a long hard look at them selfs' if macca wants to coach a team of nz'aus players then he should fook off to the nrl. Mind you would he get an assistants job out there. Just sure's you how much faith macca as in his players he's even tried to talk cherry evens into playing for England what a joke.

Fair comment.
All sports do it RU, cricket and football etc.
But i've always being proud of the fact that England rugby team has not gone down this route.
I think McNamara is desperate man, another poor 4 Nations may result in him losing his job.
Also Chase played for the Exiles against England only a few months back.
