I think he made his intentions and capabilities clear in that first game but in doing so attracted the collective attentions of the refs who subsequently seemed to have an agenda with him. Penalized for even running out onto the pitch, conversely he was left massively unprotected by the referees who seemed to ignore anyone who wanted to have a go. If Hame even so much as looked his aggressor in the eye he copped the penalty, not them.

Within a few weeks it had all been squashed out of him and he morphed into the average tentative player we've seen ever since. I'm not saying it was Agar's fault, but I do wonder if McGuire thinks he can harness that devastation more constructively, and, frankly, if a new bloke here could do the same, I'd rather we have him than have to play against him with Wigan.

I think you will find that, when you "pay a player off" like that, the termination settlement is spread over the remaining term of his original contract. This means that you tie up cap space in future years in respect of a player who is no longer with you. This is completely separate to a player being declared and having a Salary Cap Value for the year/s in question. If you think about it, anything else would lead to massive abuses.

If he goes we'll see what Wane/AN Other does with him no doubt. I totally agree about the refs. Ganson was at it even last week. There were some Loooooong ptbs in the first 20 mins of the Cas game. Hame comes on, gets a shouted warning about staying on too long, follows up with a double and immediately gets pinged for lying on despite the ptb in question being shorter than many that had preceded it. I remember in his first season there was an outcry on here about him being a 'liability' and 'penalty machine'. Work was clearly done to address that and maybe they went too far. If he does go to Wigan maybe the colour of the shirt will gain him some extra leeway.

no it wont as any payoff will count against your cap for whatever duration of his deal was. so you pay him off say 50k with 2 yrs remaining on his deal then you lose 25k off you cap for next 2 years.
