Presumably Clegg thinks it was all worth it for the referendum, when he gets a nice car, ministerial salary, protection officers and a staff of civil servants (he has a Principal Private Secretary, 3 Private Secretaries and 4 Assistant Private Secretaries in his own office according to the Cabinet Office website) to do his work for him.

I am going to Hull Uni in Sept, thankfully as my degree is Mental Health Nurse my 2 years will be paid for...I did however pay for the last degree. I really feel for people going to Uni now though it is certainly not made easy for them.

previously the middle classes needed to pay fees upfront, and the loan was means tested,

now, the fees and loans are no longer means tested and not payable upfront,

no case of being priced out, as previously said, all costs are future taxation for the graduate

just think the initial thought of his fees rising by nearly £20-000 frightened him of a little,he is only 18 and the thought of been all that in debt must be slighty scary if it didnt all work out for him.

If he had any actual power/influence and sought to use it in line with his party's manifesto that would be worth sympathy, but his position (along with the other LibDems in the cabinet) is pretty much worthless. What is he trying to change? He said no to tuition fees etc before May 2010, then the chance to jump into bed with Cameron came along and he abandoned his commitment straight away.

Agree with the sentiment if not the actual charge. There are many councils that provide excellent value for money services whilst freezing or reducing the cost to their council tax payers. Alas it seems there are many more who, whilst shielding huge bank reserves, prefer to slash front line services and jobs without any regard for improving efficiencies seemingly for purely political motive.

Oh believe me I haven't forgotten that for one instant. That was very nearly as two-faced as the Lib Dem's sudden renunciation of their pre-election pledge. Our politicians are a poor lot overall, but the current Government adds a level of incompetence and self-interest that the last lot could only aspire to.

Labour never recovered the utter mess left by Thatcher and her tory government, that's a massive reason why we never truly clawed out of their mess in the nineties. I don't know how old you are, but I am old enough to remember the great things she ruined forever, including our own city (fishing) she did nothing to save the problems of that trade. So to talk about cuts and job losses is nothing compared to the shambles she left the country in. Good riddance Minns.

...I think it is a disgrace, people have to pay through their teeth and have debt fround their necks before they even start work if they want to educate themselves to a higher standard in this country.

I heard some figures quoted on Radio 4, that the lib dems had 75% of their manifesto in the coalition agreement, and the conservatives only have around 60%...
