I agree, I cannot think of one player who he has improved tbh, yet taking that into account, plus the fact Morgan dropped down the league, and has won nothing he is considered the better coach

The 1st 3 - agreed, but the later 2 have improved mainly due to getting more game time. Hodgson was never a 1st teamer at your place so it's natural he will improve by getting a regular spot in a SL 17. Perhaps the jury is still out on Wheeldon, the next 2 years may tell.

You appear to only be capable of judging coaching ability on trophy count alone.
Answer me this, who is considered the better of these two Managers: Brian Clough or Kenny Dalglish

| Quote ="downtheante"Who produced a player? Their parents. After that it is how they are developed that matters - signing a contract just proves they can write.
In my opinion, the development of Houghton, T Briscoe and Moa are very obviously down to Agar. Hall's lack of development, therefore, also ought to be attributed to Agar. Lets' see how Morgan does with him to see if he is better at developing talent. We can directly compare how effectively they each develop players as Rovers have signed several ex-FC players specifically for that purpose. Personally, I don't think Morgan's track record is that good in this regard - S Briscoe, Chester, Cooke , Hodgson or Wheeldon don't/didn't appear to be better players under Morgan. Feel free to correct me if you think otherwise.'"
Shaun Briscoe has being massive for Rovers and would without doubt be one of the 1st names on the teamsheet.
Chester was a quality player in Rovers colours and I can't say a bad thing about him some of the things he produced where world class He's still at Rovers and doing a great job coaching.
Cooke could have being awesome for Rovers but Hull fans will always have a sour taste when his name is mentioned. Truth about Cookie is with his performance against Salford in 2007 and then followed by the display against Hull the week after he simply kept us in Super League which is what I'll always remember him for.
Hodgson has gone from an academy player of the year to a Rovers 1st team player how he doesn't appear to be a better player now is madness.
Wheeldon is an average player, when we signed him he was an average player. To think he'll be anything more then average is madness. He'll do a good job but he'll never be outstanding.

You see more that I do obviously and I genuinely hope that Hodgson does well. I could see why he left Hull at the time because he was third in the pecking order, now that Berrigan has gone, it seems he acted a little hastily.

=#0000FFBut you haven't said how they have improved. Briscoe was excellent at Hull, Chester was also a class act at Hull, Cooke won a Challenge cup at Hull and led the team around the pitch, Hodgson was a kid third-in-line for the hooking role and Wheeldon was no worse than he is now. I don't see how Morgan has improved any of them. Admittedly it might be difficult to judge with Hodgson who had plenty of potential but was never going to usurp the two ahead of him unless they got injured.

I never watched them week in week out at Hull FC. I can only comment about there performances at Rovers. Similar to yourself not being able to watch them week in week out and only being able to judge them on how they performed at Hull. and how they now perform in derbies and the odd game on sky.

| Well if the debate is switching to players whom coaches have improved during their tenure, I can certainly offer the following:
Ben Cockayne - rookie at Donny in 2005, now a SL regular
Scott Murrell - academy player at Leeds - SL regular and England train on squad member in 2010
Peter Fox - decent player at Wakey, England international since joining Rovers
Kris Welham - academy player to SL regular
Michael Dobson - great player when he joined, but improved his consisentcy and significantly improved defence.
Ben Fisher - NL standard hooker gone on to top 100 SL appearances, scorer of great play off tries!
Liam Watts - Cas academy to nominee for YPOTY in SL last year - shortlist of 3

Rovers academy has produced Kris Welham and Morgan has to be applauded in the development of Kris Welham and Liam Watts. We've also got a player of the calibre of Kristian Bell coming through which with game time Morgan can hopefully develop and bring on to be a future 1st team player.

Considering that he was signed as one of the brightest prospects in the game, do you think that T. Briscoe's development has actually been that good? He's got great strength and speed, and I'd love him at Rovers, don't get me wrong. If he can pass he could be a fanastic centre. His selections for England though have IMO [uin part[/u been as a development player, based, again [uin part[/u on his reputation as junior. Especially in 2009, when he was injured for much of the year. Even last year he was suspect defensively ([ithat[/i tackle on Fox was more dramatic than brilliant - when you watch it back our slow passing makes it a half chance for Fox, at best) at times. Still not 21, of course and he undoubtedly has the raw talent to kick on again.
Houghton, I agree has really flourished under Agar.

"that tackle" was one of several such tackles. I think he made a similar tackle in the Four Nations (I have been ill so this could be pure dillusion)

Yes but I also base it on what I hear from Rovers supporters. Anyway, whether he can develop players or not does not necessarily make somone a better or worse coach of a team of developed players. I think it's difficult to say which of the two coaches is better as their results have not been too dissimilar.

Disagree about Kris Welham. His improvment is more about his own personal will to succeed than anything else. He is NOT a product of Rovers acadamy.
Morgan can take plenty of praise about the way he has developed Liam Watts though. His poor attitude meant he was overlooked by most clubs and discarded by Cas, but Morgan seems to have transformed him both as a player and a person.
