| Better players get better results under the same coach. Thats unexpected. Has anyone told the RFL? It may be the key to beating the aussies.

Which coaches in the league do you think are better than Agar?

| I think to be a top team we need
1. To appoint and retain a good coach
2. To recruit the best top name British and overseas players we can afford (and who want to come to Hull)
3. To develop young local talent to its fullest extent. We all seem to think we have a good youth set up here but not many of them seem to come through into the senior ranks and become top class international players as opposed to just journeymen. Tom Briscoe is the one who obviously comes to mind but who was the last one before him? We talk about Reece Lyne & co but how many of them will make the grade and when? Where is our Tomkins or Eastmond coming from?
Sure, replacing Agar with a "top" coach may lead to some improvement but of its own it will not turn us into a team which wins trophies on a regular basis.

1. The jury is still out on Agar (although some have already found him guilty)
2. Yes

Agreed!! I do believe it is the case there are some posters whom literally just come on here to whine during their lunch break!
Agar has in my opinion proved himself to be a decent coach and will only get better AND he stayed with his game plan through thick and thin which is the mark of a decent fella in my opinion..
The results at present now we have "his team" back on the island speak for themselves.
How much better can we get that OZ ,SOO and GB superstars brought in to bolster the rosta??
As for the kids I will say that in any decade pro teams will only produce a hand full of young players who make the grade then the big names squabble over them and thats always been the case!! at present we have five or six that are decent and "could" make it, problem with the kids is just that they are kids and it isnt till they are 18 or so that you can see fully how they are going to develop...

I think if we can produce them we will have a good chance of keeping them. However we don't seem to produce as many or as good ones as Saints, Leeds etc.
So how about this for a radical solution - instead of going down Jake's route of sacking Agar and blowing the budget on a top Aussie head coach, why not seek out and appoint the best coaching staff we can (maybe from overseas) to develop the kids, rather than leaving their futures in the hands of ex-players like steve Crooks and Andy Last?

The only function of the club's youth development system is to bring talent through to 1st team level. On Friday, only 5 of the 17 came through the Hull youth system and they came through over a period of around 10-12 years.
I've said before that I don't think youth development is all it's cracked up to be at the club and is probably worse than you would expect if it was even average given the strength of amateur RL in the area. It certainly seems to have gone downhill since mcrae left. Maybe rovers competing for players in a factor

I don't dispute that, merely stating that the number of top class players who come through our system doesn't seem enough when you consider tehenumber of people playing the game to a good standard in the area. Seems to be a disjoint somewhere

Totally agree Jake, and it's not as if the local talent is flooding other teams. Considering out catchment area I would expect to see more Hull/East Yorkshire representation in SL.

| I would suggest that we would compare quite favourably with Saints if you were to compare first choice 17's, by my reckoning they would have 5/6 who have come through their development squads whereas we would have 4/5 in our team. Wellens, Eastmond, Graham, Cunningham, Roby and Moore, if he were selected on the bench, whilst we would have Briscoe, Horne, Yeamon, Houghton, Radford with also Washbrook in and arounds and we did get Whiting at about 17/18. Wigan would also use about 6 whilst Leeds take things to a different level all together with probably 10/11

| As an outsider looking in you seem to have an element who will never want Agar in charge of your team regardless of how you are playing. The statement that players like Long, O'Meley, Berrigan and Fitzgibbon coach themselves and are the reason you are winning is flawed as these players all played when you where playing poorly earlier in the season. Where they ultimately at fault for your loss to crusaders for instance, Agar took the hit for that one.
Brown seems to get praise heaped on him from all corners yet the wheels seem to be coming off there season at rapid knots, you're sitting comfortably above. Hodgeson is looking a million miles from the player he was and since the Brough signing they look out of balance as a squad. Is that the sign of a good coach.
McGuire is doing well at the pies, it will be interesting to see how he goes next year, often when a coach is changed, a new man arrives you get a step improvement in performances. To some extents you have seen it at your club, Sharp came in and you get 2nd, Agar came in and you got a wembley appearance. Its about keeping it that up that matters and to some extent Brown is feeling that.

A shame it take's a Rovers fan to point out their churlishness!
I wish some on here would join Barham Red.
I'd prefer them to support his team rather than our(s).
