The point is that in the NRL there are a number of world class coaches, the question is could we attract one of those. I don't know but if you look at other team's head coaches in SL there are not many (if any) that I would deem as world class. The reason is that most coaches in the NRL will not move over to SL as they deem the NRL the place to be. Some might move for the money but even then it would only be very few. An NRL coach has just about every facility he could desire within his grasp whereas over here we are lacking. Kearney said a year or so that this is one reason he would not want to come over to SL at this stage of his career.

You don't have to sign a Bennet or a Bellamy, you only have to look at someone like Daniel Anderson or Tony Smith. Neither were particularly highly rated yet did a magnificent job overe here. Nathan Brown was seen as an undercheiver at the Dragons, they had a great roster and played some decent rugby but never really achieved any success yet he has done a great job at Hudds.

We won't get Bellamy or Bennett but we could get a very good coach from the NRL, that is not accepting mediocrity it's simply being smart.

I'd go to Aus, talk to the likes of Swain, Kearney, Stirling, Smith, Hasler etc etc and ask who they think would be the best for the job. They know the area, they know what the fans are like, their expectations, beliefs on how rugby should be played etc etc and also have a good standing in the game and have a trust worthy judgement especially if you add all their opinions together. If most of them mention the same guy then you know you have the right man for the job

But the problem is you're not seeing beyond anything but the money aspect. For some that's the case, for others, not so much.

IIRC, Bennett's family situation with his disabled chidren is such that he pretty much has no intention of ever leaving Australia. And he's a good coach, but I don't think he's good enough to do it via telephone and email.

Spot on! Althought the bit about email and telephone may still be an improvement.

That would seem a very realistic way of searching for a new coach. I dare say these guys may know who is up for a challenge in the UK and if they tick the right boxes.

Hell they may even sell the club to a potential coach...

I would not call Warrington an average side, I bet you would swap their squad for for the one you have now. Can't believe you can call Warrington or Huddersfield an average side. They are playing in the CC final. Average?

You are now living for the past and not the present. 3 major finals in four years, 14 k crowds blah blah blah. When are things going to change as long as Rule and co are at the helm. Would the sensible thing be to try and build for the future again? How are the signings of two 32 year olds going to do that. I reckon you were the only club that offered Long a contract, who else would sign on a 33 year old. Ok there are some exceptions eg Menzies, Rauhihi. Also, the re-signing of Cusack has used up a quota spot which could be valuable with a reduced quota for nest season.
