Considering Agar re-signed 2 of them, I doubt thats going to happen.

Yeah, lets get rid of one of our few footballers, lets ship out Whiting and Berrigan too, the only other 2 real quality passers in the side. Lets all become disciples of Agar and be happy watching the absolute drivel we've been offered for the last 2 seasons.
Before people start saying it's not Kings job to pass and dictate play - someone has to bloody do it!!
How folk want rid of King before Cussack and Dowes(on this seasons form) is incomprehensible.'"
No offence intended, but do you actually go to the games?
None of the other 13 SL clubs would touch King with a barge pole.
As others have pointed out, he starts to play when it might be contract renewal time (something which has been pointed out on this forum for about 3 years now).
Props usually blossom in their late 20's / early 30's, yet in the last 5 year Paul King has gone backwards.
Its amazing how blurred your vision must be with those black and white / Hull born specs on!

| I thought Kingy played well, he is as good as any other prop in SL when it comes to his handling skills.
Also thought Moa showed that he can play the minutes and be effective, on that showing I would say it's worth continuing with him for at least another season.

Carvell was an impact prop wasn't he ? Played in 20 min spells IIRC and was the only prop we had who could bend the line.

| I disagree with most of you, i dont think we should get rid of him.
He works hard and always gives 110%.
The props i would have for next year are...
Cuasck
Dowes
King
O'Meley
Lauaki
Moa

| Get rid of the lump, we need to be having a clear out of the old dross we've been carrying for years. He needs to be the first on the sheet to be given the bullet.
One half decent game doesn't cover up the pap he serves up week in week out.

Clearly not the case unless his contract is up for renewal.
And the other problem is that his 110% effort has the same effect as around 80% effort from most other SL props.

Your opinion, for which you entitled, but do you actually watch the games?
If, as you say he always gives 110%, how come he managed to drive the ball in with a bit of vigour when the game was already dead and buried. Why didn't he do this when he first entered the pitch?
Its because he DOESN'T give 110%

| Mild Mannered Janitor - I do actually attend the games, have done from Preston in Lancashire, mostly as a season ticket holder, for 26 years, so you can forget the Hull born slant to begin with.
You highlighted my opinion over Dowes and Cussack compared to King. Cussack is one of the most disappointing forward signings I can remember during that time. Apart from the CC Semi last season I can't remember a game I've ever been impressed with him. Like I say if it's workhorses you want and not much guile, to follow the Hull FC style of the last couple of years, then you've got a gudn in cussack. I take people's point about king regressing in recent seasons but to be fair he's had some serious injuries too.
As i see it now, he's a better option than Cussack ( i was amazed we re-signed him) and Dowes. Just my opinion. I wouldn't have let wheeldon go either.

| His pay only counts 50% on the cap due to him being here over ten years as will Richie Hornes
I have stated in other places that the U21s do need senior players like Kingy and his input at that level would bring untold pay back. He can also step upto SL when and if we needed him, oh for an extra Kingy in the 21s now
Kingy has been at the club a long time and unlike others did not seek his fortune elsewhere. He has been a light at times, a lone warrior carrying the whole of us on his back.
Now get of his...................

Sorry Ian, mush loathed as I am to go against you but King is exactly what we do NOT need the young players learning from, if I had children I'd have sleepless nights thinking they ever aspired to "being Paul King" when they grow up.
Plus, the 50% thing only counts up to £50k, so Horne takes care of a huge amount of that advantage, you do remember where King was for the Wigan away game last year, don't you?

He has another year to run on his contract anyway can you see KAFF WANTING TO SHELL OUT HIS CONTRACT ?
I think our younger players need his one field experience, the off field ones they seem to be fully versed already

If someone comes in for him we won't need to pay him off (as per Mark O'Meley).
The youngsters in the squad will learn far more from the likes of Cusack, Fitzgibbon and O'Meley than Paul King.

I can not see another club offering him a contract, well not a SL one anyway and he would need to agree to move

The chances of any of them playing with the u21 side is minimal, hence my concern at the level of senior player involvement with the youth set up. I get to most U21 matches and very few of the senior squad even attend and the senior coaching team are invisible. I was just thinking that if it looks like Kingys SL opportunities where going to be limited next year, then we could use his services with the reserves.

I'd be surprised at that, given that he signed a contract extension on 24th July last season.

Only up to a maximum of £50K split between the pair of them. We will in all likelihood get the full benefit of that from Horne alone, so we are in effect paying full whack for King.

And whilst we have cap space spare this year we have the opportunity to use it and pay off his final year. the only other option is that he sits in our 21s all season and blocks a young kid staking a place for his development. Dont think king will play more than 5 first team games next season if he stays.
Great service to FC, is there room for this sentiment in professional sport, not for me.

Having Paul King as a roll model would be like putting Frank Gallagher up for Father of the year.
King was on the verge of signing for Leeds until they backed out due to his off field "refuelling" habits
Another example of a blinkered attitude.

Harsh.
Apart from the fact that he has had two stints this year with injuries, when he has played he has walked into an unsettled team. All the other props apart from the inexperienced Moa and Maloney have been injured at some time this year (even Carvell used to spend more time than most on the treatement table). That means that none of the props (apart from the opening of the season when we did very well) have been consistently playing their own game. For example, in the Leeds game both King and Moa were expected to play much longer stints than they would usually have done as pure impact props. In that context I think King did pretty well.
I think there is a lot of slagging of our props on this and other threads. Maybe they're not all world beaters individually but when fit and playing in a fit team they are capable of competing with the best. Let's not also forget that he has a European passport. At the end of the day, we reached three competition finals over the last few years with these and similar "average" players across the park. If we offload him, which I think is possible (even with his contract situation), he will have several clubs in the SL ready to take him on as Wigan were in the not too distant past.
