Two bad seasons? Injuries, finishing second bottom with no relegation. You should be pleased.

Just seems that way a bit when most of the talk is about 'when will our bad luck change?' and 'how much bad luck can one club have?' as if we are tragic victims of circumstance. To be completely honest, in spite of all of our injuries I actually think in most cases the players who have come in have done almost as good a job as the front line players would have in the same circumstances. We may have 10 or so players unavailable for whatever reason, but I still only think around half of them would improve the side much, with none of them improving the style of rugby we play.

It's a thread about a freak accident - that more or less forces a focus on bad luck. And we have [ihad[/i a lot of bad luck, along with the incompetence and bad decision making.
The players out injured may not effect our style of play they they would certainly improve our chances of playing it successfully. And bearing in mind how narrow most of our defeats have been they may have been enough to win us a couple of the games we've lost.
Just because we're crap doesn't exclude the possibility of us being unlucky as well.

No, I agree. I'm just a big believer in influencing your own luck, particularly in sport. There are obviously exceptions (John Higgins is always a lucky no matter what his form's like), but in general I think sport seems to have an element of karma about it.

| Hope Hame is fit sooner rather than later, but this season seems to be one long dissapointment for Hull.
Back to Lauaki, how good a player is his brother Sione. Everytime I watch Super 14 Union, this guy blows me away. Would love to see Hame and Sione in the same team.

Why would Hull pay a player before his contract started?? He's not been paid since October because that was when his contract with Storm ended, simple as.
Back to Lauaki...I didn't realise his initial application had been turned down, I just thought it was taking a really long time!!!

JR had the opportunity to explain the delay in the visa application and the injury as and when they happened but failed to do so on several occaisions.
There has been weeks and weeks of speculation, hoping and praying, and wishful thinking from all sections of the fans on the Crocker and Lauaki visa's with only the statements of we are at the mercy of the UKBA as an excuse to keep us in the dark.
Some supporters of the boards decision to keep things close to their chests have actually come out and said that they know no more than we do........bulls-hit
To be honest I don't put it down to him (JR) in not telling us, I put it firmly at the feet of KH, JR doesn't go for a pi$$ without KH saying when and for how long.
Once again our Chairperson has treated us with contempt in this saga by restraining the news/information, she is faceless, mute, insular and down right dictatorial in her custodianship of OUR club.
Time for her and the other geordie snobs to walk.
Rant over.

Quote On the visa front, however, the news is not so grim. After a wait of nearly three months, Lauaki's work permit is expected to be rubber-stamped within the next fortnight.
It would have been sooner but Sharrock says he didn't realise Lauaki, who is travelling on a Tongan passport, needed to sit an English test to ensure entry to the UK.
That meant his initial visa application was turned down, forcing him to reapply.
"I hate to give timeframes around visas but we are hopeful Hame's visa will be sorted within the next 10 days," said Sharrock.
"Hame was educated in New Zealand and he arrived here when he was three. He speaks like you and I do and when we put in the application for his visa, the assumption we had was he was fine in regards to speaking English.
"However, he chose to retain his Tongan passport and because of that it meant he had to sit an English test.
"If he had a Kiwi passport he wouldn't have needed it."'"
Would it have killed the club to have given a statement stating the above and stopped all the speculation over the last few weeks...it's hardly confidential is it!!

| Like people are saying, it happened two weeks ago, it will take another two weeks for him to get here, so it will only be another few weeks in which he will need to get fit. Weve waited this long so its not all bad.
If we can get into the top 8 and get our injured players back we stand a chance.

After the experience of all clubs with getting their overseas players' visas before we signed Lauaki, we should have been all over his application process and documents. I don't care who's primary responsibility it was to fill the forms , we should have overseen it.

| I already knew about Lauaki's first application being sent back. The news broke some weeks ago and I thought it had been discussed on here before? Didn't Rule make some vague reference to it during one of his media appearances?
As far as checking the forms is concerned, I understand that all visa applications will now be forwarded to the club to be checked over before submission. Kinda late locking the stable door, but at least we should have some better procedures going forward.
