i wouldnt think about renewing coaching contracts until august. I dont think anyone will be trying to poach Rich (maybe rovers for their FC collection))!!

The original post is a bit confusing.

Wolfie, you've said offering a new contract would need to be sooner rather than later, and then you've gone on to say would fans be happy if he was given a new contract if we won something/got to a final/play-offs, etc. They can't both happen. If the contract was given sooner rather than later, we wouldn't know if we'd won something/got to a final/play-offs etc. This is probably why the question isn't getting answered in the way you intended, because it can't.

I think he's in a similar position that Noble was put in. He's not met targets over his contract and now it's his final year there are no room for excuses. This is his squad that he put together and if he fails to meet the targets then he won't be offered a new deal. For him to be offered a new deal early, I reckon we'll need to be flying high in the league (somewhere in the top 4) with signs of staying there (i.e. no slump in form) around June time. If we aren't, then he'll have to sweat on a contract based on end of season results. I don't think we need to worry about another club poaching him (he's has no decent results at SL), so we can wait.

I think the club should thank him for his efforts and say goodbye whatever the team achieves this year.

Agar has already overcome the first major hurdle - If FC had carried on where they left off last season, losing 4 of the first 5 or something, his goose would have been cooked, IMO. Now, if I was Hull FC, I'd review the situation after 15 or 18 rounds of SL. Gives them enough time to still find an alternative for next year if they prefer, and gives Agar enough time to show that the corner has truly been turned and they don't have to, and allowing him to focus on the job in hand for now.

If it's true that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, he shouldn't be short of character, at least.

I think the jury is still out on Agar.

Its way too early to be thinking about giving him a new contract at the end of the season. If the wheels fall off like last year he won't even be here at the end of the saeason.

Lets wait until the Easter games have come and gone and see how we are doing then.

Having said all that the tactics and style of play already seem much better than last season and he does seem to have learned how to use his interchanges properly.

But that can't really be done can it? How can you negotiate a contract for a coach at one point in time that won't be on offer until months later (if ever)?

Neither party knows their bargaining position, or what other options are available to them. A waste of time.

IMO we shouldn't be looking at any sort of talk of extending his contract until at least May.

As has been said, he's hardly likely to be in demand by anyone else so no point in making a decision for some time yet

I for one think the fella is a top class individual and as a coach his results are encouraging already so lets let the lad have at least till Easter before we lynch him again huh?? Christ we have beaten last years 2nd and 3rd already and were discussing if we still want him or not what the hell do some folk want!!

As a coach his results are abysmal. I'm sure someone can come up with the correct fugure but I doubt he's won more than 1 in 3 as a coach

I admit Agar got rid of some tools,but in signing quality in its place surely he must be given a chance to prove he is capable? If he is succesful this season ,then carry on,I say.

Moore obviously hasn't come here to be no 2 to someone who knows less about coaching than he's forgotten. Can't see agar stomaching such a switch though. Shame, as I've said all along that his key strength is in bringing kids into the club. If he were given this as a job in the 1st place and kept away from the head coaches job it would have been better all round
