Great hit by Galea on Poore close to the line BTW.
In the end there is absolutely no excuse for that performance considering you had a fully fit squad, according to Gentle over the weekend. Unless of course there's some unrest at board level (that's what people would say if we'd lost that game anyway

I haven't seen him drop one bomb this year. How's Eden doing on that score?

Gentle maybe, is a good technical coach, but as a Manager for mine, the jury is still out - its his job to shape/mould a group of players into a team.
Looking at the bigger picture, he should the season out, bigger question is,
What will be the reaction of Adam Pearson,IF this season dies a slow death & we limp out of the play-offs & Challenge Cup?'"
I reckon last nights attendance must be a cause for concern.

Indeed, and they've had to put on several special offers just to keep crowds on a par with last season so gate revenue will be down. While Pearson has repeatedly stated he is here for the long haul, he won't sit back and watch the crowds dwindle any further.

| I get the impression there are deeper seated issues, we've had a "cancer" at the club for years (am sure people remember McRae referring to it as such), since 2005 successive coaches have been and gone and nothing has really changed, Gentle is working wonders with the youth setup, wether that's him or AP's money is open to question.
IF Westerman and his pals are out on the beer too much then we have the same issues as we did when Kingy was here, and a lot of that blame can fall to some of the fans, it really isn't acceptable for professional athelete's to be out on the lash, but knowing the generosity of Hull folk I'd imagine they rarely have to buy a drink of thier own.
If we do not turn things around then season pass sales will drop again next season, if City do anything in the Premier League then that will also have an impact.
One thing is for sure, I don't want Gentle, Galea, O'Meley, Yeaman or anyone else in the HDM in coming days to tell us all how great it's going in training and how the lads are "gutted", we've lost three games against poor sides that teams like Wigan and Warrington would have destroyed, we knew at the start of the season we aren't top four, as it stands, we're not top 8.
If we don't at least go down fighting in Perpignan in a fortnights time, FC will lose the respect of some fairly devoted fans, and that will take a long time to recover from.
I just can't imagine Gentle tearing a strip off anyone, similarly Agar and Kear before him, meek and weak characters who, quite possibly, can't stand up to bigger personalities. Ellis hasn't shown the leadership I thought he would, Lynch has been similarly anonymous, both playing their own games reasonably well, but not bossing their team mates around.
I've just noticed the "entertainment" on Friday is a Rod Stewart tribute act, the club are clearly in the dark ages in some ways.

From what I hear, Gentle is fully capable of standing up for himself. His public persona may be affable but he is capable of steel when required.
Not sure what the problem is TBH but if there were issues with drinking or with players throwing their weight around I reckon we'd have heard the rumours long before now.

I hope you're right, but after three abjectly poor performances I see little evidence to support your thoughts.
I just hope they don't disappoint in France.

| Not sure why anyone is pointing to our 9 wins from 10 games as any kind of indicator of form. Other than the excellent win at wire and the good performance against (an admittedly patched up) leeds, there were no wins of any great note in that run.

Wins to Salford, london, Wakefield x2 and Catalan at home weren't of great note but they were wins, and bar Salford comfortable wins that we would expect if we are to do well in the league.
one of the best performances in that run was the defeat to Wigan, yes we played best against the best team in the league but we didn't need to be at our best to win the games i mentioned, we didn't need to be at our best to win last night but certainly needed to be better than what we produced. in hte cup game to Wakefield we were compsed and flowed as a team and only conceded one try while knowing when to throw the ball around.
that run is a good indicator o the good form we can produce and should have continued after the Catalans game if we were to improve or even equal last season

It can and does change rapidly though.
There was gonna be some serious questioning regards Gentle earlier in the season until Shaul scored that try at Wakey.
We put up a much improved performance against Huddersfield and go and get a result in France and things take a different twist yet again.
Let's hope so.

Thanks for agreeing with me - I have been spitting feathers for over a year now about the exclusives with Smailes of the Mail - ban them all. The latest thing that got me going is 'The 18th Man' send you questions in to Joe Arundale -for Sundays programme - for Gods sake change the record. I don't want. while these players are not cutting it for them to give me their opinion.

No problem, I know exactly what you mean, the day Galea has deserved the right to offer comment will be when he's finally had a decent game. (and I mean a game where he has been consistent for every minute he has played)

| The way I see it:
1) Our steely defence, which brought us through some of those close games in the 9/10 run has gone AWOL.
2) We are crap in attack at present, but there is some mitigation in that we've had umpteen HB combos with Seymour, DJ, Horne, Heremaia, Westerman etc all having a go, and looks like another one coming up. On the plus side, Miller looks keen with some early promise. Lineham and Crooks are quality. The best business we could do this season would be getting Crooks on a long deal. On the downside, Yeaman, Briscoe, Crookes and Arundel have been very poor value relative to the shining example of the inexperienced Lineham and Crooks. Worrying that the last 2 are contracted and likely to be first choice next season.
3) With the quality available, the last 3 performances have been totally unacceptable and put a massive sledgehammer blow through our league aspirations to get a couple of play-off wins. Nowhere near good enough.
4) The game in France is huge, but even if we win, unless we get London/Shefield we'll be out in the semis.
5) If we lose in France, unless we pull out miraculous performances in the play-offs, the season is a failure by the club's proclaimed standards and aspirations. I do wonder whether there will be consequences. Hard to sell passes for a formula that delivers mediocrity and no element of novelty.
6) I love Clarky, but the fans need a break from the relentless PR machine. Come back and talk it up when we've redeemed ourselves on the pitch. Or be honest about what's achievable with this group of players and coaching set-up.
7) It's fecking hard yards supporting this club at times, particularly with endless unfulfilled promises of glory. But it's the same for all but 1-2 clubs every year. And I wouldn't be anywhere else.

Personally, that won't be enough to convince me that anything has changed. The next key performance IMO is Bradford away. I fully expect us to be better in the next 2 games, it's what we do: We're playing a top 4 side, and a cup game, and we're off the back of some poor performances. Our players seem to turn up focussed in those circumstances. The problem is that it seems to take such circumstances for them to get their heads right, and until they get it into their thick heads that they need to turn up with the right mentality EVERY WEEK we/they will continue to be also-rans.
