Yes it will, but by being proven quality there for many a year, he picks himself. Obviously not literally, but if Yeaman plays he plays on the left, as it just makes sense due to his being comfortable there. Same as Crooks has shown that, while preferring the left, he's just as comfortable on the right.

That's not what it's about though, Arundel is injured, that means Yeaman & Crooks are going to be our centres. Yeaman should play left and given that's where he's made his name he should get his left spot back, especially as Crooks is just as comfortable on the right.

| Yeamans fit and he comes back on the left...Ellis will be fit soon so he will take Arundels place as he used to be a centre.Who cares where Yeaman plays as long as we get a player back from injury and we need them back.

You're not daft enough to take my response literally, are you?
But no, if you mean do I think you literally meant Yeaman gets to choose, no. But I do think it sounds like you're suggesting Yeaman's experience and past performances should keep him at the top of the pecking order regardless of current performances by him and others and what might serve the team better. That I disagree with. Neither do I agree with what seemed to be an intimation that Crooks should remain cover choice on the basis of inexperience. If he performs well enough, he should have as much right as anyone to claim the position.
Going back to what I mentioned earlier about Yeaman first claiming the left centre spot, he started that season as 3rd choice centre, and then got his first crack on the right side with Barnett's illness. Then he moved to the left with Eagar's arm break. When Eagar came back he had to play on the right as Yeaman had played well in his absence and it was felt he offered us more there. Now I'm not saying that I think Crooks is there quite yet, but I don't think it's right to rule it out, either. The day may well be coming soon.
Quote ="east hull FC fan"I understand your reasoning with Westerman, but he's been by far our best 2nd rower. Yeaman, even when he's not playing particularly well, is by far better than Crooks or Arundel in defence alone.'" .
Better in defence only, though, probably. And at the start of this season not as much as usual IMO.
Quote ="east hull FC fan"Gentle has also alluded to not playing players out of position, playing on the other side of the pitch is just the same. Crooks has played right and left, maybe he's more comfortable on the right than Yeaman?'"
Maybe he is, but you're guessing (as would most of us be) This is exactly why I said I think it's a judgement call for Gentle and I won't complain either way, both prefer the left and Gentle is in the best position to see which way would be in the best interests of the team.
Quote ="east hull FC fan"Who knows, but I'd be shocked if Yeaman didn't go straight back on the left.'"
I agree, but I'd have no complaints if he didn't.

Assuming you're capable of debating the point, which I'm not sure about to be honest, where do you stand on the playing players out of position argument? =#0000FFBecause Yeaman is only really comfortable playing on the left, whereas Crooks has shown an ability to play both sides. Now given they're our only two fit centres, where would you play them? Yeaman plays, he should play left.'"
Where do you get that from? A long time ago, but when he first emerged he did a fine job on the right for a while.

Nearly ten years playing left centre leads me to believe he's not as comfortable on the right. No more than that really.

I never mentioned pecking order, the thread is titled Arundel and his injury. Yeaman and Crooks are the only fit centres we have. I was pointing out that Yeaman should play on the left and given his record there deserves it. Especially as Crooks has shown he's just as good on the right.

Apart from the Turner try (where he slipped) I don't think he has been off form in that regard.

I agree Gentle is best to judge.

| I suspect that Yeamo will be back on the left as that has been his regular position for years. However, Sunday against North Wales would be a good time to test him again on the right. Good time to test a youngster too if it turns out Yeaman's not fit.

Maybe, yeah.
Teams attack down the left mostly because its far more comfortable for their playmakers to pass right to left (obviously right handed ones). Same reason can be given for Yeaman's preference to defend/attack on the left.

More along the lines of which centre will do the better job, and if fit which two play. We haven't had 3 decent centres in ages like we do now. In fact in recent years we've been struggling to have two.

| Hull FC centre Joe Arundel has been ruled out for six weeks after suffering a knee injury in the win over Salford on Saturday.
The 21-year-old, who has four tries from eight appearances this season, was forced off near the end of the 24-18 victory against the Reds.
Director of rugby Shaun McRae told BBC Radio Humberside: "It isn't a major injury."

He is getting better and your are right about that turn of pace. Too many on here bagged him earlier this season without giving him much of a chance.
That being said, after the break he made for our first try at Salford the pass he fed to Crooks left a lot be be desired and Crooks did very well to control the ball with his feet.
