You miss-understood the Cheerleader comment, the coach is the role model who is the one who sets the examples in the team.
If a player got off with a cheerleader (she was right age, he was not married) no it would not be a problem, he is not the married coach who is the role model for the team/club.
However the only thing Longy had done in his career was to get off with a cheerleader this discussion would not even be taking place!....Longy is remembered more for his off filed antics as he is for those on...He is a poor role model for the sport off the field.

I think you are too hung up on holding people's past against them. Andrew Johns was a confirmed drug-user in his playing days but has worked in coaching with a few clubs now, Ellery Hanley went to prison and went on to a few successes as a coach, their past deeds don't mean they aren't respected by anyone. I'm not saying that Long will be a great coach, or even a good one, I just think it's wrong to state he won't be on the strength of a few stories and a twitter feed. Those who actually speak to him may find him to be very different than the impression you've formed.

My point about Millward was pretty much what you've just said. Acceptable behaviour is different for players/coaches, and Long will be smart enough to know that, so my point is that he'll know that he can't behave the way he has done in the past as a coach and will probably cease to do so.

Maybe not sure, but it hardly compares to Longys escapades does it

We were talking coaches not role models. You said you are not interested in players who want to go into coaching. My point, which was very valid when you calm down was that Long is only doing exactly what Kearney has just done.

You have just been creaming yourself over Edwards but he did exactly what Long is doing.

If Long was being mentioned as our next head coach you would have a valid point but plenty of SL clubs go down the route of having an assistant who is a recently retired player. Examples would be Poaching at Wire, Lowes at Leeds, Cummings at Bulls, Webster at Hull etc. For you to say it's the wrong road if we want to challenge is silly, Tony Smith would agree.

You may be right.....However if we troll back through the pages, my original point was I would not want him at FC and I stand by that.
For the record I was chatting to him in the sports bar a few weeks ago and he seemed a friendly man, it may work for him it may not, but personally I doubt he will set the coaching world alight.

I'm agree with what Standee said on this one, with the current coaching setup, no, if we got a good coach in who wanted him on board, I'd have no problem with it.

Some-one told me this morning they read it in the Daily Star today, I have been unable to find a link though, and I am unable to confirm as I do not get the Daily Star.
Sadly I doubt there will be any truth in it.

Finished with them in March I thought, bit of a disagreement if rumours are to be believed.

He's the current defence coach of Wales and head coach of Wasps. Reckon he'll be on a few quid don't you?
