| With his injury record it was always going to be a gamble. Unless there was a fitness clause in place a 3 year deal was poor judgement.

| what we all just wanted too see from the new regime was passion on the field and ambition off it and although we'll have to wait a month to assess the first bit this news today certainly means that although it might be hard getting the best players to Hull in general and Hull FC in particular we can match anyone with the offer we make. Love the guy as I have always done, but I don't think Marc will come back although the lure of having a pop at being our highest ever goal kicker etc and returning as a hero to finish his days at the FC might be a draw but if he really did move to Salford for family reasons Leigh would be a better bet for him. Although I do believe that the owners who have an obvious eye for business see this possible signing as a way of boosting season ticket sales further.
However the actions of the last 24 hours do for me at least show that a) we have ambition. b) we have a good business ethic and are willing to back the coach and spend the cash if we need to and it befits the Club as a commercial enterprise and c) (as we saw with Walker) the coach will be fair and honest in his dealings with the players but if hard decision have to be made the sentimental approach which has cost us dearly in the past has now left the club. At least Mr Myler and Co give us something to talk about!

| Just when we thought it was a quiet spell...
I have never agreed with the Abdull signing he is too injury prone and several coaches have tried and failed to keep his weight down.
Sneyd would be a great short term measure but we must remember he is now 33 and not very fast (neither is Sezer) so need to watch we don't tie ourselves down and be stuck with an aging slow halfback paring for two long.
Other option is we start the season with Cust/Charles and gamble someone becomes available later.

Sneyd would be a great signing for 2 seasons. He has a good fitness record and he was playing great last season. He is better than any half we have had since he left.
Charles is not the answer this season. After being thrown in at the deep end last year, he needs to go out on loan for a season in the Championship and develop his trade without the pressure of the SL.

| [quote="Dave K.":3i81k8yh]I don't get the different foot but, how many RL clubs have one right and one left footed kicker?
Get the other points though.
Charles is the same age as Farimond, so would be a pointless signing, lCharles would look good in Wogans side for the odd game, but neither are ready to play regularly especially in Hulls current side[/quote:3i81k8yh]
I'm sure very few clubs have one left footer and one right footer but its a way of giving the side an edge. Inevitably if you have two right footers or two left footers, one of the two plays on a side where half of the field is essentially blocked off to the long kick. A big part of Wigan's recent success was putting Bevan French in the halves and whilst he's clearly a great player in lots of ways, him having a right foot kicking game gave us a different option which was so valuable when teams put pressure on Harry Smith.
The thinking behind Farrimond would be that he could share the role of the second halfback with Charles and perhaps could benefit both. Plus he's a running threat which Hull are lacking atm.
Also, Cust was bloody awful when he played on the right for Wigan. His best spell was on the left in early 2022 when Tommy Leuluai was still in the side.
Was it the right decision to move Jake Trueman on given the situation Hull are in now?

Still the correct decision on Trueman.

A 19 year old with less experience than Charles is not tue answer, I'd rather give gametime to Charles

For 2025 I fully agree, and it's important we see green shoots of recovery in 2025 to keep the momentum of the takeover going.
But what I meant was we also need to be careful 2026 isn't the same set of players another year older. Though when I think about it releasing Sezer and pairing Sneyd with someone younger could be an option (can't believe I'm already suggesting yet more pay offs but hey ho )

| This daft marquee rule. Because Mikey Lewis played for the city of Hull Academy. If we signed him as a marquee would his wage only count as 50k on the cap?

| It's never dull is it!
I can only assume Abdul was going to be out for a significant chunk of the year or was showing up so badly that the club don't see it putting us in any worse position even if we can't get a replacement in.

Nothing to do with playing for the academy, any non fed player can be a marquee and only 50k count on the cap.
So this would be Sneyd

Lewis isn't coming right now, and I'm going to be bold here and say I'm not sure he'd be the right fit now anyway he is working well adding off the cuff plays to a good structure. We don't have a structure adding a half back doing random off the cuff stuff might lead to the odd try or two but it doesn't fix all our issues.

Knee injury a lot worse than initially said, Catalans should have sorted it out last year but they wouldn’t pay for it even though was in the loan agreement with rovers they was responsible for his medical bills. I said we’d struggle to get 10/15 games out of him didn’t expect it to be because he’s not here

Lewis would be an unbelievable signing, he has developed alot into more than just an off the cuff player.
I don't think Lewis will ever play for Hull personally.

Actually I think it's only 50k if the player is club trained but 75k for fed trained. So Sneyd (if he came back) would be 75k but Lewis (not that it will happen) would be 50k because he was at the City of Hull Academy.

That’s not true -
3 marquees
1 x overseas 150k anything above doesn’t count
1 x fed trained (eg someone like if you signed him Welsby) 100k
1 x fed trained through your academy 50k

This is where the club needs to get a lot smarter, Catalan had the chance to keep him and early performances were promising but decided not to. Rovers of course had already loaned him out. We should have read the signs.

You can definitely have 2 marquee overseas players, we have two for certain.

You can have 2 x overseas marquees, it's the 3rd one that needs to be 'British'
Shows the salary cap rules are now clear as mud and I guarantee the geniuses at the RFL aren't on the ball with it either

My thinking is he'll end up in the NRL soon. And Rovers will have first refusal if he comes back here. If he comes to us it'll be towards the end of his career.

Agreed, was a poor signing and 3 years was just ludicrous.

The figures are right though, 100k for Sneyd compared ti 50k for Abdul.

There is a specific dispensation for one academy player though isn’t there?
Either way we might have wealthy owners but the money McNichol has ploughed into Rovers for seemingly no financial return is huge in RL terms like it or not they’ll be able to match or better any Hull offer. There’s absolutely no way Lewis joins Hull when he’s contracted until 2028. That is one move that’s certainly won’t happen regardless of marquee status. Even in an NRL scenario Rovers will have stipulations ensuring he rejoins them if they did let him go early.
