I'm looking forward to seeing this lad in a black and white FC shirt for many seasons to come.
As to Craig Hall.............Jesus what does the guy have to do to get some credit around here? He was solid in defence today and he does look to have bulked up alot more, we know he has pace and when given the ball today he did everything asked of him, his pass out to Tom Briscoe was superb. He has to be there or there abouts for me, and not the sort of player you want to be discarding, nevermind just after a fooking start of the season friendly. For me, it is clear he is a confidence player, knock it and he'll suffer, support him and he'll get through it, he has all the necessary skills to be a first class centre at this level, we'd be mad to let him go (not that I think we will).'"
I like hall a lot and have been vociferous in my support of him before but he isn't solid in defence

Cost us a try while he was waving his arms about. Anyway, you're right, the whole of that side needs looking at or we'll ship plenty of tries

I disagree. No doubting his defensive strength was an asset, but his primary value was the attacking threat he posed.
Quote ="World of Redboy"Now if he's no better in defence than he was last year, then he isn't worth a spot at 6.'"
Since when was 6 primarily a defensive position?
Horne did some good things today, created one try with a kick, and another with a pass. He looked sharper in attack than at any time since his injury IMO. Hopefully his defence will improve - he wasn't alone today in having some lapses there.
Writing him off after one friendly seems a tad premature TBH.

| Whether it's Turner, Yeaman or Hall I welcome having genuine competition for places in the centres.

TBF Kosh, not sure people are writing him off after one game,he was poor last season, he now has the personel around him, he has to improve very quickly, for me personally defence is a key feature for any player, would like to see what Turner offers there and as I have posted this may inspire Rich to find his form quickly..
Without entering the Hall debate, again i agree although a scoring machine it is no good if you are letting the oppostition in, poor defence can lose games, however we may have the option of rough ar*ses round him this year to protect him, good times I think with lots of options, should improve these boys no end.

I don't think Horne lacks inspiration to improve, so I don't see what that would achieve TBH.
Horne's performance was an improvement from last season. He made two tries and got involved a lot more. Hi defence is a concern but not enough to dump him out of the side after one friendly.
IMO.

| Was impressed with Turner, a mature performance I thought. He looks to be aggressive and strong but doesn't get over excited and doesn't throw the panic passes under pressure we sa all too often last year.

I would. Horne really isn't all that good at FB, and I thought Tansey linked into the attack superbly yesterday.
There are other, less disruptive, options if Horne has another poor run. Turner for a start.

I'd rather leave Tansey to develop at fullback, he adds a genine attacking threat from that position. If Horne is struggling then I would like to see Turner given a go at 6 or Washy.

Most definitely. Tansey was one of the top performers yesterday. He and Longy were deep in conversation for a lot of the time during the breaks in the game. That link will be important as it develops. 2 good other options that you mention if Horne's game struggles.

Think that summed him up completely on that performance, should he not be back on form ( and I hope he is but looked easy to brush off today) I believe that Turner and Hall are the future for FC in two areas based on the fact i cant see anything more coming from Yeaman either and lets face it we have waited a long time to see him come back to some sort of form and it simply never does but what a great position to be in to have Turner and Hall at their age !! they will both grow into internationals i am sure of it, and if they get injured Whiting etc all there as cover
I do fear for Horne and Yeaman though but I really hope I am wrong

Agreed. However, they were receiving some ball! Yeaman would also have received that ball and we might have seen what he can do. Yeaman's defence would definitely have been better.

| Impressed with Turner but Whiting was also top drawer, with Yeamo to come back, it's a great problem to have. I thought Tansey showed an attacking masterclass from FB that we haven't seen since Precky and shouldn't be moved to 6 although I agree, Horney is still way off. Problem for me is, we simply don't have a stand off at the club unless Turner can play there at this level. Washy far too slow for a top number 6 I'm afraid.

thought they both defended well to be honest , Yeaman had a bad habit of being beaten on the outside to often last year for my liking but contrary to what the radio gang say Hall looked decent in defence and is improving massively

I believe we were tactically weak out wide last year - it was clearly a defensive pattern set up by Sharp that left the outside centre and winger exposed on both sides far too often. I hope we sort it out for this season.
I was at the game and we were certainly not tight in defence out wide on either side until Whiting came on.
Turner ia s fantastic prospect which he showed occasionally in what was, after all, only a pre-season friendly and Hall is already a very, very good player with a couple of frailties that he is a long way towards fixing already - I expect both to improve greatly this year and to get some game time. Yeaman would be my first choice though with Hall next and then Turner.
