they got him more for the coaching side of things for the younger players i think he will play the first year then will be coaching that why he got the 2 years

You asked if he is the answer. I have stated that he is not the total answer. We had far more problems than just a lack of scrum half this season. I do think we need a world class scrum half, every team does. Though you can count on one hand the number of world class SH in the RL world and Long is the only one in the UK. Long is a start. I fear possibly like you that we will rest on our laurals for 2 years and not bring anyone through. But given your apparent knowledge you will also know that it takes more than just one player to make a team as I have stated.


So who are you then? Name yourself so I can stop questioning your education.

As I understand it, we don't need to its a club house at the end of the day, and an off field asset we hav'nt given it to him just let him live there!!!

I believe the club has 4 houses in total, as investments, none of which have been included in the past caps, Danny Tickle is I know in one, they pay a peppercorn rent I believe.

What's he going to coach them to do? Drink, gamble or womanize? I think he's capable of being what we need on the field, but certainly not a coach to act as a role model for the kids.

Everyone who has lived life and is male has probably had periods in their teens / twenties when they have drunk and womanised even Wayne Bennett ( I don't know this for ceratin but I am sure he has not been a wall flower all his life). I would suggest that his wisdom and experience will assist him in helping players to see the error of their ways. You can't kid a kidder and all that.

He has been there and done it and worn the t shirt several times and I am certain that providing he has learnt from that experience he will be an ideal coach.

He is teaching them how to play rugby, not getting them through finishing school.

to the 1st poster ,Long was the best out there available for the club to sign and although i worry about injuries and his age ,he is a proven 7 and i thought he was the difference last night between wigan and saints,kimorley has done a great job this year, when he was supposed to be finished so i hope Long can do the same for us ,the club did the right thing signing him ,can i ask if we hadnt of gone for long who would u have brought in instead

who is available nowadays depends how much money your offering,as i dont know Hull Fc accounts and salary cap available, hard to say . This post was about an actual signing not one of the thousands of rumours. The fact is we have signed Sean Long not one of the thousand rumours, so my point was, will he be that missing link that we are looking for . If i was to stab in the dark at who would i prefer evryone has there price so would have thrown money at Finch or even stefan ratchford who i think will be very good next year.

If it were straightforward to capture the best playmakers from the NRL, everyone would be doing it. Whilst he's past his best, Long is as much a threat in any given match as any of that list IMO, for his unpredictability if nothing else, and miles better than what we've had available in the last couple of years.

Neither Finch or Ratchford are organising halves there both stand offs for me. I'm not saying either of them aren't good players cos they are but we've been crying out for an organiser since Cooke left and the two you've mentioned aren't that type of player.

I'd say Finch is, but agree on Ratchford, he's more of a running stand off.

Cooke is the type of player we are really lacking for next season in my opinion as is Ratchford, we need a player who can provide the outside backs with quality ball, look at how well Yeaman performed playing outside Cooke and with other backs such as Hall, Raynor, Calderwood and Briscoe we could have a deadly backline, at the moment having Horne at 6 I dont think we will use them to there potential.

Hopefully Long will have the impact Dykes had although I think Long will have a bit more quality around him then Dykes had to work with, he was the best available option for a club of our size, peopel mentioned the likes of Orford and Prince but it was never going to happen, a very good short term signing in my opinion.
