Kelly and Ratu can be replaced we have a Fonua and hopefully Connor partnership to look forward too. Once the footy a done n dusted then rugby can get on with getting games played, and there's a £16m fund to compensate clubs for any financial losses incurred by playing games behind closed doors
too much doom n gloom for me when theirs logical solutions'"
The £16 million is in the form of loans to save clubs from going under, as I understand it.
Sky money will be cut by 17% next year according to this: https://www.totalrl.com/clubs-face-fina ... t-in-2021/
Sponsorship will be down in 2021, it is close to certain. Personal finances will be squeezed for many and ongoing uncertainty and fear relating to the virus will likely depress pass sales. There’s going to have to be some major belt tightening or big deficits run up across the game.

Indeed, especially for clubs without rich benefactor chairmen like FC. Those being a bit sniffy about us offering deals to England Knights players are in for a rude awakening / reality check.

You are right about the loans, some seem to think it's just a handout, it isn't. Importantly the £16m is for the whole game, not just SL, they should really be referred to as hardship funds. Whilst players are furloughed the maximum they can get paid by the scheme is £2,500 a month, the clubs are not obliged to top it up, it will take some very painful belt tightening for everyone to repay what this whole situation has cost, RL is the least of our worries for the foreseeable. You could forgive Hudgell, Pearson et al for simply walking away. Owning a SL club is not a money making enterprise, even less so now. SL players are going to have to accept that £50K a year is a blumin good wage!

| Rumour I heard was Benji Marshall to replace Kelly.
Also, heard that Bateman is coming to Hull, not Wigan, and he’s bringing James Graham with him.
All dependant on us getting £4M Of the £16M loaned to the RFL.

very much doubt it... [uGuardian, May 1st[/u [url=https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/may/01/rugby-league-gets-16m-emergency-loan-from-governmenthere[/url
"How the £16m rescue package is distributed is likely to be discussed by the RFL and its clubs in the coming days. Many in Super League privately believe the funding should be heavily weighted towards top-flight clubs, though with the government underlining the importance of rugby league to its local communities, a significant portion will probably be spent on funding the sport at grassroots level.
The government’s confirmation that the money has been issued as an emergency loan, rather than a grant, also implies rugby league will be responsible for repaying it over a period of time, though the terms have not been disclosed. [i“Rugby league is a sport that makes a significant social impact in the communities it serves, which is even more important now as we respond to the economic pressures resulting from Covid-19,” Steve Barclay, chief secretary to the Treasury, said."[/i
even if that caveat hadn't been made, no way would one club be allowed 1/4 of the amount available...

As when can we expect to hear of Houghtons decision?
Personally think it suits all party's he leaves.
Would save us a lot on the wage bill

| As far as I'm aware, contract deadlines have not been changed, so anyone in the last year of their contract is now a free agent if they have not accepted new terms.
I can't see how the club could possibly be in a position to make new contract offers, so my guess is that anyone who wants to go will go.
Only a few clubs will be squad building, and we know who they are.

Is it really doom and gloom, or is it just talking about what might or might not be happening, and if the club aren't saying anything or concrete evidence then fans will always speculate/chat on forums, social media and down the pub, it's not really out the ordinary to wonder what is happening with players, we can still be positive about how things pan out but still discuss what ifs.
What if Fonua goes back, unlikely but could happen, that would mean a "logical solution" is scuppered, what if there are no decent halfbacks or wingers available to replace kelly and Ratu, nothing is 100% predictable, that's we chat about it and as usual have concerns about the way things might pan out.
Also people seem to be forgetting the £16M pot is a loan to be paid back, the RFL have spoken about creating a formulae but haven't themselves given anything concrete on how the money will be paid back nor revealed what the governments stipulations are.
Clubs have to apply for money outlaying criteria as to why they need the money, it's not as simple as compensating clubs for 'losses' and how club chairmen discussed how that huge amount of money is going to get paid back, considering Rimmer has said that those clubs in most need are likely to get a bigger wedge, then how are these clubs that are already on a knife edge financially, going to pay the money back?
Whilst Rimmer stated that the government need their checks and balances as it were, they could press to have the debt written off, considering the huge amounts of money going to help out a corrupt sport that at the top end are basically tax avoidance businesses including their 'talent'

good for you, only 5,600 a day newly diagnosed, 300+ deaths a day. Maybe you can hire a bus and start rounding up the people you think deserve to fall off a cliff?

| Would people be prepared to lose a few senior players, and blood some younger ones for the next couple of years, even if it means not achieving as much as we could?.
I don’t think we’ll be in a position to match some of the contracts being offered to Houghton, Shaul et al, nor do I think we should.
I’d be happy just watching a committed team that play a decent brand of rugby for once.

Every great team is full of experience, players with something extra and raw youngsters wanting to make a name for themselves. For me Wynne, Brown and Johnstone are the raw new breed we need to see bring energy and vigour to a somewhat boring safety first FC that Radford had created. Wigan do it, Saints do it, we dont - time to give them a go!

Goodness me Seb, lockdown has had a profound affect on you. Post Radford is a new beginning, let’s see what Last but more especially Purtill can do with this decent team. If Shaull and Houghton can get better deals elsewhere and they want to leave so be it. Connor Wynne and Johnstone are able replacements, some might suggest, better.

Taken out of context my post may be "an affront", if anyone was offended I apologise. I just don't see the "risk v reward" for having crowds at games as things are, we can social distance in shops etc. and the risk is reduced because we are not in there long and outside we are moving around, to get social distance once people have sat down is easy (ish) if it was SP holders only and they only sat in every fourth seat on every other row, but how do they social distance getting in and out etc.

| Wynn & Johnstone better than Shaul & Houghton ???? We really have been away toooooooooooo long !
Straight swap would really weaken us, lets not pretend otherwise. Both would need backup recruiting & guess what, their contracts will undoubtedly be linked to appearances. So 20 appearances will probably double their money anyhow.
Suggest we leave the finances to those who are paying the bills.
IMO the backlash against Club Hull is overstated. Fully agree that both have some limitations but both are extremely solid with many qualities, better tactics & coaching could well turn them into world beaters. For me our Number 8 is the most disappointing of the ClubHull contingent, yet nobody seems to give him any stick ?

You missed my point, Shaul and Houghton may want to move on now Radford’s gone, I said “if they can get better deals elsewhere, so be it”. The last part of final paragraph was tongue in cheek.

Stevie Ward?, Ben Flower?, Ryan Hall?, Danny Houghton?
I don’t subscribe so those are just guesses from what I’ve heard previously.
