Whiting average?..........he has the best rugby brain at the club and needs to be signed up ASAP.

Agreed - young player of the year who's been moved from pillar to post position-wise and has had some freak injuries that hve kept him out. His presence in the team has made a marked improvement. I hope they sign him. If Fitz plays at 13 though, where will Whiting play?

Is that the extra leg talking? Whiting is a quality player. He might lack a bit of pace but he's one we should definitely be retaining

If another three are to come in then I hope it's a fullback, centre and a prop. If it mean losing Whiting, Cusack, Thackray and Horne then so be it. I like Whiting and Horne but if we can bring in a genuine centre then that is what we need.

Why would they play Fitz at 13? We need more quality in the second row, and we need to be able to spell Manu. The last thing we should do is put Fitzgibbon at LF.

I'd be amazed if we sign another halfback, I beleive we are talking to a fullback overseas and if he comes then Horne will partner Long in the halves, in fact no matter what happens I reckon Horne and Long will be the halfback partnership.
I'd love Finch to come and play 6 with Long at 7 and Horne at 1 but we are looking at strengthening several areas so I don't think we will see another halfback coming in.

Good point and that is the million dollar question as it seems that we are targetting specialist in several positions! Sacrifices will have to be made if we bring in another 3 as the Mail says, personally I hope it aint Whiting though!

Backrow is covered, Radford, Tickle, Manu, Fitzgibbon, Washbrook, Burnett and Luauki depending on who else we sign.

I could see Lauaki playing prop given our lack of strength in that position - unless we make at least one top class signing there. Even then, they might opt for Dowes and Thacks to start, with Lauaki and the new prop on the bench (depending what happens with Cusack, of course).
I struggle to see where Radford will fit in unless we get injuries, to be honest. I'd like to see Fitz and Tickle starting with Manu coming off the bench.
Whiting is arguably a better prospect at 13 than Washbrook is - he's at least as good.

| Players OOC this season.
Tony, Cusack, Thorman, Whiting, Horne, Thackray, Lee, Moa and Maloney.
I think RA wants a third halfback to cover injuries to either Horne or Long, that would suggest Thorman to be retained but Whiting is an option surely? He could play 6 and also cover the centres and 13. All depends if he is asking for too much money, the club won't want to spend big money on what could be a backup player.

Not sure Thacks will be here next season and imo Washbrook is a far better player than Whiting. Whiting has never produced good performances anywhere but at centre, admittedly he has not had too many chances. Washbrook is our diamond I think along with Briscoe.

Would make sense. I've wondered in the past at times why we didn't play him at 6 and Horne at 7.

God forbid they get rid of Whiting and keep Thorman. That simply can't happen.
I'd keep Whiting, Thacks and possibly Lee from that lot. Maybe Maloney on another one year deal to see how he progresses.

Dowes and King will be here as props and we are looking at signing another. Luauki could be the 4th prop and Fitz plays the full 80 minutes so could also be the 5th prop. That I think would leave one more space for either Thacks, Moa or Maloney.

He's had virtually no chance. The vast majority of the rugby he has played for Hull has been at centre. Most people say he's not a centre, yet he consistently plays well there. Given a run at LF he'd be a very, very useful player. At least as good as Washbrook if not better.

King will probably only play half the season though, so we need capable cover.

Not sure Whiting has the power or the engine to play at 13. Washbrook gets through tons of work and still chips in with line breaks, support play and try assists through good hands. Whiting may be able to play there and using him there this season would be good so we can see if he is capable or not.
I reckon Washbrook could be a real star, he reminds me a lot of Sinfield at Leeds at the same age.

Washbrook is a good player, but I don't know if he's as good as you're making out. I've always thought of him as a good SL player rather than a future international.
Whiting may or may not have the engine to play 13, but I see no reason to suspect he won't have. His RL brain is one of the best at the club and he reads the game incredibly well. I think, behind a dominant pack and a couple of decent half backs (Long and Horne?), Whiting could be a real attacking threat.
In any event, there's absolutely no basis for saying Washy is 'far better' than Whiting by any stretch of the imagination.
