Miller came in and was thrown in the deep end without the benefit of an off-season. This year both Miller and Rankin will have 3 months to train together with the rest of the team.

Again, an improvement on last year.

Have they said when he is expected?

While I understand our last few experienced halfs in Holdsworth, Seymour and Long haven't really worked.

Not much about now and the last recruitment hasn't given Radford much to play with, better having Rankin than playing heremia there or signing Mcgoldrick.

Happy with this signing, he looks a great prospect. The key thing for me is that we are now filling the spine of our team with youth.

The one concern I do have is we now lack an 'organiser' in the halves but I'm hoping Horne and Heremaia's experience will be invaluable to the two young kids.

It'll definitely be exciting if Miller and Rankin both get to play 'off-the-cuff' rugby.

Welcome to the best supported team in SL Mr Rankin. From what i have heard he is a very good support player very quick tall with a decent kicking game should fill the void very well. #COYH.

Looking forward to seeing what he and Miller can do together. Really pleased with this signing and glad it wasn't pryce or mcgoldrick.

I hope they both turn out to make a fantastic partnership and stay at the club for many years. Being from Hull is a bonus, would rather have a winning team than a local one.

Looking at the highlights video,he enjoys broken field play and looks to take the line on....all the things Holdsworth didn't do.

Miller is a cheekly little 5hite. We all saw him whispering at Fat Boy Burns in the Craven Park derby which sent him over the edge.

Reminiscent of a young Andy Gregory. Annoying as hell.

Got plenty of pace and movement by the looks and decent in the tackle.
Nice to have options.
I wouldn't totally discount him playing game time at full-back.
Get him on the trainig pitch at Chants and might be streets ahead of Shaul as far as any of us know.

quinny, unfortunately you are 100% right. Rankin was known throughout the Toyota/Holden Cup as a weak defender and was targeted every week.

I've seen some turnstile halfbacks in my time and I wouldn't class Miller as one. Yes he will come unstuck sometimes but turnstile, Nah.

hope he can tackle better than miller..... his defence is suspect to say the least....

If we're judging half backs by their ability in defense, we're going horribly wrong.

Although defence is important, the three halfbacks with the most missed tackles last year (also in the top 10 in SL) were Chase, Dobson and Brough.

I'm more concerned with what they can do with the ball, which is our main area of concern.

In the last two years individually and as a team our defence has improved massively so hopefully under these coaches Miller and Rankin will improve.

Dobson can't tackle to save his life, but that's not a halfbacks forte. Briers neither.

Our props have no kicking game which is a concern

I never understand the argument.

half backs are targeted in defence to tire them out so it limits their attack, just has the quick smaller player targets running at the bigger player when they are tired, its just part of the game
