Ice Arena is at least 10 years out of date, wants condemning, its in a very poor state.

Would be great to have a larger one that could double up as a mid sized concert venue or used for other smaller events

This city is in need of good facilities, having the attitude of "theres a centre of excellence in sheffield" isnt the answer, talented kids in Hull are getting overlooked because when they reach a stage where they have to go to another level, our kids have to travel out of town, gymnastics in the city, if there good enough have to travel to Leeds for training, football for girls have just had their centre of excellence taken off them, now I dont think for one minute Mr Allam is going to provide these facilities, but he talks a good talk, and people in Hull will fall for it (if it goes to a public vote), hes already spoken to the local gymast academy on what they would require to progress, they think hes the next messiah, promising the earth if he gets the village, it would be good for the sporting talent in Hull if this village was built, but he in reality isnt going to provide it! and i wouldnt want him too, but i would love to see it provided, just not by him!

If he wants to build a sports village so much as a 'gift' to the city, he could quite easily buy some cheap land elsewhere in Hull and build one. That would be nice.

I just "nudged" Hull City Council, asking why I hadn't received acknowledgement of my F.O.I request on May 20th, reminding them of their obligations under the act, roughly 30 minutes later I got this:

So, by Monday I should have some answers, or some excuses.

They're probably bringing in a consultant on mega-bucks (with an assistant) to answer the question.

Doubt it, they'll spend up to their policy limit and then ask for Standee to pay the balance of chargeable time if he wants the rest of the information.

However, you have to wonder whether now they've invested £40m and are wanting to rein back and create a self-sustaining business, whether that's consistent with the stated intention of a quick return to the Premiership. I'm confused as to why Allam is on one hand intending to spend million on a 'Sports Village' when just a few million would get City the players they need to mount a promotion challenge (with a 90million a year TV windfall on offer)

I am not suggesting he should go out and spend big time on any old 'has-beens' but even 5million would get City 2/3 good quality Championship players. A lot of City fans are already grumbling about the lack of action this summer and the 'cheap' players they have been linked with.

My personal guess is that the "Sporting Village" could be less about gifting sporting facilities to the city and more about getting the land cheap for commercial purposes. Call me a cynical old accountant, by all means. I'm sure all will become clear when the detailed plans are lodged with the council

Has there been any news on the sporting excellence that he wanted to build to help bring the youth on?

Its not £90million a year more like £40-£50million, the £90million relates to parachute payments the promoted clubs get if/when they get relegated and don't return within 3 years iirc. (something like £16million a year) sorry for going o/t mods.

I'm sure i was told a while ago that there are certain restrictions on the land where Walton St market is due to the sewage system and utility pipes etc, could anyone shed any more light on this?

In 1954 the North Hull Deep drainage system which featured a 12 foot main Drain conecting North Hull with a pumping station at the end of West Dock Avenue went right across the site and up the Boulevard.

Oh great, HCC gift him the land, he starts building, then when the KC gets flooded with raw sewage (apart from our home games against KR), he sues the council for the £140 millions that the commercialised land would be worth.

so hes going to build and run a sporting excellence, buy the stadium, buy the land around the stadium and build a hotel, an olymic swimming pool, and the rest of the sporting village and hes only worth 180 million? and thats without the funding of hull city buying players and paying wages? Ive been trying to talk sensible with city fans about the guy and they still see him as god.

If i was a city fan (which i am loosly, my first choice as its my city) id be well huffed off about giving rovers 1 million then buying pal Mkenna.... now...................................... sleep!
