| Now the Test series against Australia has been cancelled is it worth making an offer to Shaun Wane, even if its just until the end of the season? I know he's previously said England is a full time job but surely that cant be the case if theres no fixtures to prepare for. Id definitely feel more confident with a character like him coaching and leading us.

While I wouldn’t disagree with Wane as the new coach, hasn’t AP given Lasty the job this season. Then again as Lasty is one of Wanes assistants, maybe a chance for them to work together earlier.

Don't know about hexidecimal but the poster surely meant hexadecimal which is a system that has been around for a while. I first became involved with computers in 1969 and met it then.
If the poster is indeed 'bumpy' I would certainly welcome him back unlike a few on here who had no appetite for his input, particularly his dislike of Radford.

With things how they are right now, the most sensible, and sensibly economical, decision is to keep Last and Purtill at the helm for the rest of the season. Then reassess as the campaign closes.
The squad we have is actually very strong. We had a shaky (understatement) start to the season with a few injuries, suspensions and downright appalling performances. Once everyone is fit and cohesive, this team can do much better than the first few games of the season showed. Whilst I don't see Last or Purtill as being the long term answer, the club's hand is forced somewhat by the restricted income available to them (aside from the government provided loan via the RFL) and hiring a new coach, plus Last/Purtill or paying one/both of Last/Purtill off would be financially difficult to justify just now.
Wane would be a good candidate but I feel it's a case of right person, wrong time with him. Fitzgibbon could be the right man and, if it helps him to secure an NRL job two years down the line, it could be a good move for him, but I'd expect any permanent new coach outside of Last/Purtill would arrive in time for season 2021, rather than immediately.

Probably the sensible and frugal approach, just kicking a few ideas around, as you say we do have a very strong squad and Wane in charge of this team would be challenging for honours. Lasty & Purtill will get my full support, and hopefully will get the results we all want.
It seems an age since we beat Leeds in a very good solid performance, and an uninspiring victory in the Derby against a below strength opponent. The wheel nuts were loosened against the French, then Radergate unfolded live on Sky with a dire performance.

| Given Shaul and Houghton are talking contracts it would appear Last will get the gig and Club Hull will keep rolling on...
How we replace Kelly (at his best, not his last few recent games) is our main question....

Happy for Houghton to be given a contract, we have seen in the past that he is a very good SL player, with more to his game than just defence.
Not so convinced by Shaul, he doesn’t seemed to have developed into a top FB.
Maybe a new coach can bring out the best in both players.
I know people won't agree with me, but for me Connor gets a shot a 6, we have seen glimpses of what he can do at stand-off, even at international level, under a more supportive and attacking coach I honestly think he could be a very good halfback, certainly have the skill set.

It depends what Houghton wants, if he is realistic then keep him, if not then let him go, agree 100% with you about Shaul. IF Last becomes coach (or Wane for that matter) I can't see Connor at 6, Last may surprise as he hasn't yet had chance to coach "his" team. Personally I wouldn't want Wane at the club, Fitzgibbon for me, but as has been said, the economics don't stack up at the moment.

| If Houghton and Shaul are staying i hope its on much reduced contracts - their last ones will more than likely will of been high due to MOS for Houghton and Dream Team for Shaul but those days are long gone - if they get anything like the same money then the club is mad

| I wonder with the income situation being as it is if the club are considering Connor Wynne and Jordan Johnstone as younger replacements for Shaul and Houghton. With Ratu and Kelly they could shed four players off this years squad probably saving quiet a bit albeit leaving it a bit thin.
I'm worried by the lack of news from the club, the only news we are getting is from the HDM and its always bad!

They certainly dont mind bombarding your email trying to get you to buy reduced kit though do they? Its almost like all they want is our money
And i agree on Wynne and Johnstone - time for club Hull to be broken up and for the new breed to make their names

No news is good news. The fact that Rugby League is shutdown probably accountsthe for the lack of any stories or would you rather FC make up fake news, much like the HDM

So that's 2 down, 11 to go. Hang on a minute though, Wynne was born in Hull, so that's a tricky one.
And then there's the academy and junior sides, get rid?
Maybe supporters born in Hull need to find another club as well, pointless doing things by halves.

But club Hull has been consistently poor for a while - Shaul, Houghton, Taylor, Bowden, Lane, Fash have all been poor for ages - certainly some of those were far too comfortable in the team because of Radford - would we miss any of them, perhaps Taylor, but not any of the rest based on this and last seasons performances. I hope Houghton can do a Roby and find some form again in his last years - the rest can go now for me

How about some news on the coaching front ? What the players are up to in lockdown ? Financial news, OOC players ? The fact that nothing is coming out makes me think its bad, its understandable but still disappointing.

Me too. I agree with your points on potential reduction in squad quality. Let s also bear in mind we have only 6 points from 7 games and no permanent coach and no benefactor owner to buffer us from financial strain so not really a compelling destination.

To be fair most of the team have been poor for a while, could a coach change plus the enforced break be a huge positive for those/all players?
Also what do you expect of squad players like Fash and Lane, they clearly aren't ever going to be headline names and their salaries reflect that, Fash gives his all every time, we know he isn't going to bend the line, that's not what he is in the team for, he's there as a stopper and can, though not sure he's suited to, cover dummy half.
Bowden has been beleaguered by injury the last 2 years, a shame really as at his peak he's a really good prop, again though who would we get on his salary, is he a middlin' earner, I wouldn't know but he's not going to be on loads, and still only 28, the club obviously need to look forward, judge if he's worth holding onto, see who can offer similar in performance for similar money.
Do we have any props coming through that can take up that role, there's hardly a plethora of decent props out there and it's difficult to know how much Bienek has come on and if he's ready to step up.
Wynne at FB, would any of the faithful be unhappy if he were a starter and we lose Shaul, Shaul himself got a chance when SM got injured and grabbed it with both hands, Wynne certainly seems to have what it takes.
Taylor has looked jaded, but is that the result of simply having to take so much on his shoulders or something else, again who could we replace him with like for like IF that was a decision is to be made?
It's going to be really hard for the coach/club to make decisions either way, we can only hope that those that take the field show us something to get excited about, have a re-do and get a really tight bond between the players/coaches and show us what we have been begging to see for some time.

| I have similar thoughts regarding club hull players, I posted a cost effective post in the wake of the coronovirus whereas when you look at what Houghton, Shaul and Bowden are earning and how they are or arnt performing you could definatley put forward a good case for Johnstone, Wynne and Brown replacing them , and argubally out performing them while on much much lesser wages.
I'd add Matongo to your list too who is now 24 and has failed to cement a place, often being injured or just not being assertive and busy enough when he plays.
A mixture of club hull comfort zones, and not so youngsters who have failed to progress/perform to a high level
Some very good squad shuffling/recruitment needed and not big name signings either more effective cogs who perform. Somebody's going to have to be clever with the wage cap.

My concern about the lack of information coming out of the club is that we may have to brace ourselves for more bad news.
We know we are losing Ratu and Kelly but the Jones situation has still not been clarified by the club and i just hope this inactivity the sport now finds itself in doesnt have an adverse effect on our new overseas recruits and their families and one or two ask to be released from their contracts on compassionate grounds and return to Australia.

| I'm staying positive, didn't the Jones rumours get dismissed and I'm hoping no news in the Jones scenario is good news.
Kelly and Ratu can be replaced we have a Fonua and hopefully Connor partnership to look forward too. I'm sure the over seas guys will want to still have their over seas experiance and honour their contracts, I can't see mass contract cancellations I don't get why they would, none have in other sports........
Once the footy a done n dusted then rugby can get on with getting games played, and there's a £16m fund to compensate clubs for any financial losses incurred by playing games behind closed doors
too much doom n gloom for me when theirs logical solutions
