Been saying this for years about us as a club. Mediocrity is so ingrained in our club culture from the staff to the fans. Whilst the majority of our fanbase continue to accept the mediocre performances, players and staff recruitment, nothing will change.
I'm sure AP didn't want to settle for mediocrity when he first bought the club, but seems too that he has started on the slippery slope.
You can be a passionate fan, in any kind of weather, but still want more for the good of the club and its future. Its those that sit and clap crap and swallow the drivel the club dish out that are really holding us back.
How is this changed, I'm not too sure, maybe its just Hull as a city.......

It's not about been up any ones all I'm saying is motu is doing his best to recruit the right players in the positions needed, I know he's getting paid for his role at the club, so stop been clever, I have always respected coaches & players that put a shirt on for our club, I have never thought they have wanted to fail on purpose, I just think we have never had the quality, but that's not entirely there fault is it there just doing a job wether there players or coaching staff, so stop with the kissing comments, I have posted before that if raiders does fail our club he should go.

Wigan and Leeds have 4 times the number of back room staff that we do, because they are far richer. Recognition that it's not a level playing field is important and if realistic expectations off the back of it result, that's hardly something to get angry about.
If fans choose to exacerbate the situation further by withdrawing their support, that's their prerogative, but gives them a weak basis for outrage as they're dismantling our already low chances of competing with the boys at the top of the tree. How do you suggest bridging the gap?

IMO - If AP changed his policy about, signing one proven player,to attract better season pass sales
then ,divert those funds, to better staff, we'd get better performances on the field, then attendances
would surely increase.
amateur preparation = amateur performance.

Fair point, but a couple of extra back room staff whilst losing a player like Ellis, aren't that likely to materially move the dial vs Wigan/Leeds IMO. We need a shed load more cash and fans to back the club to really match the top clubs. I totally get people getting fed up with unfulfilled promises and disagreeing with various appointments and it's their choice to support or not. But as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. If as a collective we don't put in enough to provide a team and infrastructure to challenge, it is what it is. Slating the club on here is cathartic but doesn't change the fundamental issue.

Agreed. We've needed a good scrum-half for a long time and the club has failed time and again to sign us one that isn't a crock, can't be bothered, a stand-off or rubbish.
I can't wait for the new signings to be confirmed but I am not getting my hopes up too much.

I know - you see it regularly as clockwork - people sat laughing and clapping at the KC and virtually pleading with the owner to keep things as they are as the next opposition try unfolds. Rapturous applause at every FC dropped ball and cheers of every missed tackle. I heard on twitter that we're trying to open a new club bar at the KC called MEDIOCRITY which will have massive TV screens wall to wall showing our many calamitous defeats over the last few seasons and selling a new club sponsored brew called Second Best Bitter. (Entry limited to season pass holders only who are the pinnacle of apologists). Virtually everyone you bump into around the club these days is happy that we're where we are and the owner and staff couldn't be happier with our progress out of the top 8. Only this morning Motu has been hauled over the coals by Pearson for trying to sign a player from Wigan- apparently Pearson has told him that unless it's Wigan St Pats the deal is off.
You and I both know that the only way to change this is to get rid of the seven thousandish so-called fans who accept all this mediocrity with glee season after season and for those of us realists to vote with our feet as well. It's the only way results will improve as we just can't make progress with all these people getting in the way with their ridiculous outlook. Let's see how Pearson likes it playing in front of a few hundred every week - that'll teach him.

The thing is, I'd actually say that that's what most of the dissatisfaction boils down to, though. The Hull fans simply have not been getting what they pay for in comparison to most of the rest of SL. We are not one of the cheaper sides to follow. In fact, in relation to the typical local wage level, perhaps even one of the most expensive. I appreciate that some clubs have a wealthy backer distorting things, but IMO it’s fully understandable that fans may be getting fed up of keep shelling out and getting short-changed. Asking them to keep believing and funding the project when they are consistently seeing a lack of progress is getting difficult, and possibly even too much to ask. It’s arguably what many of the more negative people keep saying about accepting mediocrity, giving up on competing because it’s unfair and we can’t do any better.
I’d be much more in line with your viewpoint if it was just a few ‘superpowers’ that we were struggling to catch, like the 2 you mention, but sadly it isn’t. Hudds & Wire have money backers, I appreciate that, but in a salary-capped sport should they be so far ahead of us? Saints were still consistently above us with their ground supposedly haemorrhaging money. Catalan have finished above us 3 out of the last 5 seasons, and level on points in a 4th. Wakefield, Cas, and Rovers have all finished above at some point in the last 5 years, Rovers more than once, and Cas only a point difference another year.
So the situation isn’t only that we are finding it hard to catch up to the big boys; we haven’t even established ourselves as the best of the rest. There are teams with fewer resources than us competing with us, which if we apply the same reasoning you say is making it so hard for us to compete with Leeds/Wigan, shouldn’t really be happening.
There’s another phrase, ‘don’t throw good money after bad’, and I think that’s simply the stage many fans feel they’ve reached.

Totally agree about the support. We also don't make enough use of our props' offload game around the ruck which would help to suck players into the middle especially if we pushed three or four players through with the ball carrier. Then our set second man plays out wide might just be a bit more effective because at the moment we mostly use them against a set defensive line that has watched the videos and end up playing the ball further back than we did centre field after a wide player gets smashed as they receive the ball. Radford needs to see this and address it.
However I have no doubt whatsoever that at least one more experienced HB with an effective kicking game would massively help us. Experienced players can alter the shape of the team and the way it is playing on the hoof whereas younger players tend to just rigidly stick to the structure whatever is happening. The kicking game is so important in this day and age and we're frankly bordering on hopeless in that department.
It's not just one thing that's wrong but addressing key areas would go a long way to gaining big improvements.

You're probably right but it's not any surprise - it's always been the same. If the club is struggling the gates go down and if there are glory days some fans reappear. It's harder now to get fans back for sure - there is more choice vying for the leisure £ these days and times have been hard - that's not just our problem as league attendances across the board show all too well. The club has done remarkably well to retain the attendances they have based upon the last 6-8 years of on field (non)achievement.
At the end of the day some fans (apologists according to some) will attend come what may. Others will pick their games and some will disappear until the good times roll (if they ever do). The club is struggling on the field at the moment and some will spend their hard earned elsewhere. Nothing new really.

I agree. People are free to do what they like, it’s just that whilst I can see certain points in both arguments about stopping attending/sticking by the club, I don’t really agree with either stance as a ‘right’ answer. It’s up to each individual, and about whether or not they get enjoyment/satisfaction from their choice but should not be used as a stick with which to beat someone holding an opposing view. People shouldn’t rip into those that will continue to attend as blind sheep, but neither can I agree with asking/expecting people to continue to attend if they’ve genuinely had enough and don’t enjoy it any more (and I really can’t abide the minority who attempt to lord it over others as ‘better’ fans). Attendances can be fairly and squarely attributed to the club (both positive and negative) and their efforts (and to a certain extent the game as a whole), rather than questioning the dedication of fans. I suppose the flip side of ‘you get what you pay for’ is ‘you reap what you sow’, and our falling attendances are an indicator of that.

Outstanding!! An object lesson in the use of sarcasm and I agree with every word you've written. For someone to actually blame the supporters for effectively holding the club back (GM1) is lunacy. Without these supporters where is the money going to come from to try and move the club forward. We're all frustrated with the lack of progress that's been made but not rolling up on match day, or buying our season ticket, will only make the situation worse. We need to all be there as much as possible, or else I fear we won't have a super league team to support.
Rant over!!

Totally agree - I wouldn't tell anyone what to do or indeed criticise anyone for non-attendance - I'm not that arrogant - everyone should make their own choice. There's always been the same reaction to periods of relative success and failure by fans and there always will be.

I am not criticising Tony. That a DOR is trying to better the squad is not news worthy of being reported. Its their job. Should they be patted on the back for being paid to do their job? If they do very well, then theydeserve praise.
As mentioned, I doubt anyone in a DOR role would come out and say "we are signing bang average players"
But I realise a few who frequent this forum actually beleive everything on here. Thats, as pointed out, is blind optomism. If we had a track record of outstanding signings, your point would have some weight. The reality is we don't have that track record.
Let just wait and see

| Maybe "pat on the back" was not the correct thing for EHFC to write?
But we should encourage Motu and not slag off everything he does/says.
He's only been in the role about 6 months anyway hasn't he?

ive said this many times, esp when it comes to forwards driving the ball up.
we go forward with one forward, meaning the defence can put 3-4 in the tackle, winning the collision and the wrestle on the floor. resulting in slow play the ball. then we look totally useless.
sending 2 players or 3 players forward, the defence has to make decisions, has to put only 1-2 players in tackles, resulting in us winning collisions, and the wrestle on the floor and getting quick play of the ball, which is when we look dangerous.

| Quote ="Mrs Barista"Wigan and Leeds have 4 times the number of back room staff that we do, because they are far richer.
How do you suggest bridging the gap?'"
What's the first part got to do with anything I said, Easthullfc fan is bigging up MT for doing his job, that's the thing he's just doing his job, nothing more, I don't see that he's done anything spectacular as yet or going through hoops to make things happen yet this fan is saying that he is "doing right by the club", WTF does that mean, seriously? This individual cannot see that Radford doesn't have the skillset or personal attributes to be a SL coach never mind one aiming to be competing for trophies, yet he wants fans to blindly throw their support toward him.
A person whom has already gone back on his word about leaving if he couldn't cut the mustard, a coach whom at the beginning of the season spouted about us having had a kicking coach on board for 'hours' (in the context of it being a lot more than that) when it was so plainly obvious that wasn't the case at all, the coach that can't accept that some players needed a ing rocket up their s yet others got punished by being put on loan instead, that he's made basic tactical errors with interchange time and again, taken the oppostion for granted (Widnes was an epic failure in that respect)
I'm not withdrawing my support, I'll still go when I can because I don't want to support anyone else, if I lived in/around Hull I'd go every home game despite how we are, i'd go if we got relegated, the fact is I don't, a 310 mile round trip is a drag for a Friday especially coming by car, four trips including match day ticket cost me the same as a season ticket, that's just the way it is.
However as a fan, as a life long supporter I feel that the club is just existing, we made some strides in the right direction under Gentle, but seeing the bigger picture, seeing what it takes to actually make the top 4 and semi's and finals regularly with a very real chance of winning silverware evades the owners and the people involved in running the club.
The whole culture, professionalism is lacking(Gentle was the most professional thing to happen to this club in years!), people are just 'doing their jobs' without any trees being pulled up, especially by those that wield the most power/have greatest effect.
Root and branch should be exactly that, everyone needs appraising, everything single aspect of the club needs looking at by someone outside the club and comparing it to the Wigan and Leeds' of this world and beyond, looking at NFL and how they approach things..we are still so far behind it is ridiculous, the fact we got to Wembley last year was a miracle in some ways, a big pinch of that down to the coach.. This coach will probably fail to get us into the top 8.
I'm sick to death of failed promises, penny pinching, idiotic rash decisions, no backbone to follow through, no professionalism, no real clue on what it actually means to look at every angle to succeed.
The problem is that people are so set in their ways, they don't want the boat rocked for fear of losing their jobs, nobody will come in and even if they do most of the tough decisions, the most serious recommendations would be ignored or not acted upon properly, because that is what 'we' are as a club, second rate also rans with not the gumption to recognise that is what we are.

I don't disagree about professionalism, winning/ruthless mentality at all. Our recruitment and failure to deliver half backs of any competence is poor, clearly. But my point is this. Wigan, Leeds, Saints, Warringon, Huddersfield all have significantly more funds available to invest than us, whether through better crowds, more favourable ground arrangements, or sugar daddies. Pearson has a diminishing pot to spend as crowds are falling and the SMC deal isn't getting cheaper. He's putting money into youth, which is bearing fruit through our England academy picks. He's spending the full cap and paying fees to get targets to get a competitive first team. There's only so much left, and on the face of it, the number and quality of back room staff is "giving". Every area of expenditure is worthwhile in its own right and Powell's current form at Cas is an example of a good return on investment. But Cas aren't a long term sustainable top 4 bet IMO. Because against the depth of Wigan and Leeds and co's financial supremacy they can't compete in the medium term. The gap for us is a bit less, but getting bigger as fans stay away. If we downgrade the squad to balance the books, people will mither about that too.

| You still don't get it do you..never mind...I'm wasting my breath
EDIT..hint, you don't always have to spend more money to make things better, you don't have to ask the staff to go above and beyond all the time, you don't have to insist on perfection, you don't have to have the latest 'in fashion' whatever (in relation to anything pertaining to your business), it's about having a set of goals to aim toward as individuals and as a group/organisation.
As a club we aren't ever going to get anywhere because we have an owner who doesn't have a clue, is impatient, unrealistic and dare I say it, has 'other' personal problems that manifest themselves in the way he goes about things (make of that statement what you will). We also have some in positions that just aren't cutting the mustard, that aren't able to bring to the table what is required, it's nothing personal but as an 'investor' in 'our' club I want the right people doing the right things at the right time, co-ordinated by someone who actually knows what they are doing with regard to achieving success in a professional environment..Pearson isn't that Person, nor is Radford, how much simpler can I make it?
It's the simple things like the FC live, I bought it first time it was out, £60, yeah I'll have that, quality (as in viewable quality not content) was gash(making a SKY HD broadcast into something that looks like it was recorded using a potato is a whole different level of incompetance!!!) but sure they'll make it better, club says we are going to make it better yadda yadda. Did it, answer no! Did the club bother responding to my email regarding such..answer, no! Did they lose my business for purchasing the package, yes! I explained I'd have been happy to pay more for better quality but obviously they aren't interested in such things.. that's just the tip of the iceberg frankly.

A really well thought out post which sums it up perfectly.
