| As Sheldon said, Tansey has adopted his game which I think works well for him.
Please carry on like that.

Where you get your quick play the ball he gets pushed back 10 yards nearly every time.
Has the habit of spining out of a tackle then turning back into same tackler ie:-not a full back.

| Don't see what the big problem is really as if he comes charging more chance of the ball being knocked out.The one he dropped last night I thought was a good kick overall I think he done really well for us at full back

| Tansey's kick returns are the weakest part of his fullback play. His other attributes make up for it. He backs up well and links well but he is rarely going to make a lot of yards returning. In some ways it's a shame because it does sometimes nullify the benefits of his excellent positional play which means he catches a lot of balls on the full.

Still pretty young and inexperienced in that position though.
I'm more than happy with his contribution thus far. He's great positionally, runs the ball back well(IMO) safe as houses under the bomb, links up well in attack and has a kicking game. Jeez, what more do we want? He has comfortably been in the best 2 or 3 full backs this year.
Halley for Bradford last night returned the ball directly with pace, were did it get him?

Hayne has still played most of his career on the wing. Saying this, when he does play fullback he always beats the first man.

Very rarely will a full back run back a kick return at top wack. Think about it, the vast majority of his team mates are in front of him and the chances are he will get tackled, so he needs to give the rest of the team a fighting change of being there when he plays the ball.

| Its not American Football. I would rather have a fullback who can catch and show good positional play. Couldn't give a rats ass if he goes only 5 yards. Safety first. Last line of defense.

I think for a fullback, safety under the high ball, one on one tackling and positional play are must. Chiming into the line well and good ball returns are what separates solid fullbacks from world class fullbacks.

To be fair, you could name every single NRL fullback. We seem to have stopped producing the class acts we've always seemed to have in the past.

| Quote ="hull smallears"Don't get me wrong, i like Tansey as a player. I think he has a spark. But going back to the Wigan game, Tansey was woeful yet seems to have escaped criticism at the expense of others. I think Tansey is a 6, have always thought so. I think tonight he looked out of position a couple of times, but did not have a bad game to be fair. Just not sure of him at fullback. I would rather see Hall in the centres, but Whiting is a shoe in for a starting spot, and for me, it would be fullback as he has the brain and qualities that the position needs. Might therefore allow Hall at centre, and then maybe Tansey as an impact bench player. We have a large squad which is good and options, which is also good.
.'"
Tansey has made a few mistakes but nothing to be dropped for, wouldn't have Whiting at FB he is not fast enough IMO. He's ok at FB to cover for a game or two but not for a long period of time. Tansey has the potential to be a world class full back IMO and we should stick with him.
On a different note, I wish people would stop comparing Modern Day players with players from the 80's.

Agree with that!
However, if our pesky full back could skip round 3 or 4 and dance to the half way line every time, our players could just stand and wait for him to arrive

True, but the average forward in Kembles days were about as mobile as the Exxon Valdez.

| I think the Aussie way of having a FB who is another ball handler rather than just a traditional high ball taking, one on one tackling FB is the way the future is going. They tend to play an extra runner at 13 and make up the ball player at FB. As Raggytash said earlier, at nearly every NRL team the FB is one of the main creative players. I think with Tansey having played FB recently in the NRL, he is the best Englishman at playing this role and will be an international FB either this year or next.

A big reason for that is that, for far too long, we (using the term 'we' very loosely, in that it doesn't include me) have, in this country, prioritised safety as being the main thing to look for in a fullback. That lack of willingness to take a risk/progress/show some ambition has led to the situation we've had over the past few years with Radlinski, Wellens, Briscoe, etc. being the sort of fullback we've produced. And that simply isn't good enough.
It's starting to change, but it'll take a while for coaching philosophies at junior levels to evolve and, in turn, for that evolution to have a significant impact at the top level.
