Most outstanding three-quarters are interchangeable these days. Just because their clubs want them to get their hands on the ball as much as possible from full-back doesn't make Boyd or Hayne any less of a winger!
As for your first point, Hayne made far more impact playing for Fiji in the World Cup semi-final than Briscoe has in any international against the 'big two'.
Hayne, Boyd or any of the others mentioned wouldn't have embarrasingly spilled that 'dolly' catch that Briscoe did in the Four Nations either!

Tom is outstanding but not yet perfect. At the age of 20 I would not expect him to be TBF.
The real indicator of how good Tom Briscoe is would be to see how many clubs would be interested in signing him should Hull FC go bang (you wish!) and I confidently predict every Super League club would be in for Tom Briscoe.
I reckon he would be a top class centre as well given the chance.
From a selfish point of view I hope he stays at Hull but could also see him going to the NRL and proving himself as a top, maybe even outstanding back, on the biggest RL stage.
Just my opinion of course.

As an Eels fan I think Hayne is outstanding but have seen many a brain fart from him as well.
I may well use this in a future argument...

I don't think you would find an individual alive - with the possible exception of Craig Murdoch - who doesn't think that St George have three wingers better than Briscoe.
Morris, Nightingale and Boyd.
That said, I don't disagree that Briscoe has the attributes to play in the NRL and would/will be in demand before long.

Anyway given the fact you think Daniel Vidot is a NRL star I don't know why I'm discussing this with you.

| Glad i saw this thread. Was about to come on and ask a question about briscoe. There is a dream team topic on the wigan board which is quickly descending into bickering between wigan and wire fans about why certain players in their respective teams haven't been selected. However, i found it baffling that hardly anybody (in fact, possibly nobody) had included briscoe on the wing. Granted, we only see him once or twice a season plus the tv games, but whenever i have seen him he has looked top class. Easily the best english winger around and for what it's worth i thought he was one of the few who looked ok in the last 4 nations tournament.

I suspect if you asked the coaches of those 2 teams and probably all the Super League teams Tom Briscoe's name would come up. Tony Smith made his feelings quite clear about what he thinks about him after Hull defeated Warrington earlier in the season.

| Radio Yorkshire also asked the question - is he the best winger in the world currently after his 3rd try. Ryan hudson, who was summarising, said he probably is.

| We need to start challenging the top 4 in the next couple of years if we are going to keep him I reckon.
Even then with the favourable exchange rate down under, as much as it would pain me, it would make sense for him to prove himself in the NRL at some point, especially if he continues to improve at this rate.

It is a valid point, we will struggle to hold on to him without any silverware in the next couple of seasons.

| iirc Briscoe is ooc at the end of 2013 (I think that he signed a 5-year deal in 200icon_cool.gif. If we don't give him a good reason to stay there'll be plenty of teams queuing up for his services that could offer him a chance at titles.

Briscoe isn't the best winger in the world, Morris, vateuvi, Richards, Yow yeh, Boyd (although he is a fullback) are all better than Briscoe. But he certainly is the best English winger we have.

Uate for me is just fast and powerful nothing special. Haven't seen much of the NRL this season but, for me Morris and Vatuevi are the stand out wingers in the world at the moment. I would be really gutted to lose Briscoe but to see him in the NRL would be good and it is something I would tell every player to do if they have the ambition.
Briscoe outside of Inglis. Now that would be awesome

If we win silverware he will just go to Aus as he would have won something over here, he'd be a fool not to at least even try it. If an ageing Brian Carney can get a deal over in Aus I am sure Briscoe could.
Briscoe won't stay with us beyond his contract IMO.

| You all harp on about Uate, but I bet you only watched him in the SOO series and don't watch him week in - week out, Boyd is a full back. Yow Yeh cannot return the ball like TB.

| So your saying because he can't return the ball as good as Briscoe (in your opinion of course). That he isn't as good as Briscoe? What about were Briscoe has faults, such as defending against high kicks? He also doesn't look comfortable at passing the ball back inside on the occasions he had the chance. i.e against Bradford a couple of seasons ago, he had the opportunity to pass it back inside but didn't look comfortable in doing so, but lucky for him he beat his man on the outside still. I'm not knocking him, but he has to improve on basic(ish) things like defending against high kicks before I think he should be considered amongst the best wingers in the world.
