| Been 100% serious (not taking the pee), do you ever still get people wearing Hull Sharks shirts/merchandise at games? Just looking at that website of Hull's shirt history, and to be fair to the club the Sharks name/logo was up there with the better names during that re-branding era of the 90's (i.e. a hell of a lot better then Blue Sox for example). Both the shirts from 97 don't look too bad when you see them on there now.

| Was just thinking the same myself Roofs......those Sharks shirts have a certain appeal!
Funny how things work out though.....some of those names have really stuck in th SL era.....Bulls and Rhinos spring to mind.
Maybe its time we reverted back to sharks?

Well that's it, I've seen it knocked over the years, but it was probably the most suitable (and fashionable) nickname they could have without totally breaking away from the area's tradition (i.e. the fishing link). If I was a Hull fan I'd probably wear one from that era every once in a while just for a change, esp one of the 97 season which was the club's finest moment for six years at that point.
Fair dues though I can see why people were annoyed with the 98 home shirt at the time, probably the shirt which least remembles a Hull home shirt ever really.

I think not !
Steve Evans never played for Leeds !!
Mick Crane is on there though, which means this photo must be around 1978.

I think he means in the Hull/Sterling photo, mate. Someone else confused Dick (dark hair/moustache) with Sterling (blond/clean shaven).

Can't recall Sterlo ever wearing a Shopacheck shirt,if you go on our website in the fanzone check out the Wallpapers, there is one of Sterlo,He is wearing an ABI shirt in one and no sponsor on the other.Seeing as how he only played for us for a season and eight games find it hard to believe he could play under three different sponsored shirts.
Kevin Dick signed for us in 86 so all the same players will have been there who played with Sterlo .'"
One of the other players in that photo is sat here laughing, it is definitely Sterlo in that picture.

Brian Smiths first year in charge then? Still think it could be Phil Windley's!

Yeah could be. Didnt Hull wear that shirt away at Wigan that season when we won 35-22?
I am sure they wore it at an away game shown on scrumdown as well. Salford maybe?

| on that well known video site, if you search for the vid "steve norton peter sterling HULL V LEEDS " it shows shopacheck were the sponsor at the time as you can clearly see it on the shirt, so that backs up all the comments from people with better memory than me =)

| I think from the above you could summise that it is a No 7 shirt from the time Peter Sterling was at the club because:-
* He did wear a shirt with 'Shopacheck' on it made by Umbro and the away shirt would have been made same company with the same design.
* This shirt is made by Umbro and the post 1987 shirt was made by Matchwinner with a similar design. (The Matchwinner shirt was actually different because it had a raised small collar on it and the sponsors badge etc were made out of a sort of foam rubber rather than stitched/embroidered - I let you draw your own conclusions on the quality of 'Matchwinner' gear)
* In between 1985 and 1987 the shirt was a single irregular hoop with ABI sponsorship.
* Shopacheck were the first sponsor and there wasn't any sponsorship before then. The shirt before this was the very old Irregular V Design
The problem is did Peter Sterling actually wear it. It is unlikely that there is more than one of these shirts as they seldom made spare 'away' kits. It was therefore probably the away shirt worn at the time by who ever played at No 7 in specific away matches.
I think the best place to look would be away matches against Featherstone, Halifax & Oldham as they are the most likely kits to have clashed(I think). Any photo from these matches during 83 and 84 showing a Hull player wearing this kit and confirmation that Sterlo played in the match would give us a winner.
The alternative is to see if Sterlo has a facebook page and ask the great man himself. Unfortuantely this is beyond my technical know how.
Also, as a thought was Shopacheck sponsorship crucial in getting Sterling over here in the first place as it was a major coup. As the start of sponsorship ties in just about exactly with him arriving?

| During Sterling's time at Hull, Shopacheck were only sponsors in January 1985 - including the JPS semi photo earlier in the thread - before the sponsorship deal with ABI Caravans. We were wearing ABI sponsored shirts at the start of the Challenge Cup run that season. Looking at the club website we only played three times that month - the semi, the JPS final and at home to Widnes.
We didn't have a sponsor in 1983-84.
This all suggests that it certainly isn't a Peter Sterling worn shirt.
