Long is finished and next year will be even less of the player than he was. Dobson would of been a much better signing had we pulled it off but thats our club all over.

We never got near Rovers line as much as we should've done, most of our sets ended on the halfway line and we were kicking from there. Getting from our line to Rovers was a huge problem.

sean long was very average last night,but dobson wasnt much better.one 40/20 does not make for a decent performance.and where was mr dobson inthe two league games we played against them?.yes maybe long is over the hill,but he has scaled the heights,dobson wont get much higher than base camp.

he kicked you too death, he kept Rovers moving forwards, he was MOTM, Sean Long just didnt show up for this one, Long scaled the heights at Saints, he wont scale Hessle Road fly over with Hull

Agree totally we had little field position. For me it was defensive intensity and kick chase where we lost it - both of these are strongly linked to attitude. Rovers were more intense in defence and a lot quicker in their kick chase. I think we used a lot of energy in the Leeds game especially with 12 men and we were flatter than normal in the forwards. These were the aspects that made the difference.

Long isnt a miracle worker he wasn't at Saints either. He did however have a dominant pack , centres and second rowers who could run good lines as well as stand offs who can actually create opportunities themselves .

People clearly forget the fact that didn't do it all at Saints on his own.

The reason we won was because we had a great scrum half/stand off partnership.I for one am glad Morgan has stuck with Murrell at stand off after trying out various players in that position this season.They kicked Hull to death from the first whistle,and that was missing from Hull.

Have to say I agree, I think our passing and distribution and support play (lack thereof) was the issue. That and a distinct lack of passion and intensity.

Yes it would, we missed 42 tackles. If you'd have coupled that with the field position that the kicking games of Murrell and Dobson served up.

Losing Hall early doors was obviously a massive blow as the responsibility fell on the shoulders of an unfit 33 year old.

Although I'm an FC supporter, I live in Chester, and end up attending Knowsley Road with Saints-supporting friends as often as the KCS. Regarding Long, I think it's broadly true that it was principally the term of the deal offered by Hull that swayed him. But as to the money on offer in Yorkshire versus that in Wigan, whatever Sean's version of events, ask yourself whether there was ever a chance of him seriously competing with Tommy Leuluai to be the starting No 7. He's been in the game long enough not be delusional about such things. Having watched him for several years at Saints, let me say that one aspect of his performances which became as apparent as any other week in, week out, was that his kicking game, place and open field, had degenerated to the point of at times becoming almost a liabilty. Not a secret on Merseyside, and should have been picked up by the deal-doers at the KCS.

My problem with Sean and Richard Horne is not that they're our first-choice partnership in the halves. There's certainly quality and experience in abundance there. It's more the naivity of thinking an increasingly injury-prone almost 35-year old player, and No 6 whose health has unfortunately been less than ideal in recent times, are the stuff on which the prospects of a team as ambitious as Hull FC should be based. And if the directors and the coach in their collective wisdom felt that such a risk was acceptable, to at least fail to have the safety net of capable reserve players waiting to step into the breach should the probable happen, could be argued to be little more that negligent.

A final thought. I don't decry the quality of our overseas acquisitions this season. Ogre and Fitz have been first-class. But if you were going to build a team from scratch, and salary-cap restriction meant that money was tight, and you clearly thought that you needed a new scum-half, which position would you start with? Brian Noble had six weeks to assemble a team at Wrexham, and brought in Michael Witt.

THey've both been released by Crusaders.
