Have I missed something, I assumed he was English as he had played for a couple of other Union teams so cannot understand the non fed trained bit. Surely if he was born in this country then he can play for whoever he wishes, dont recall a problem when we signed that full back from Ionians, James Greene?????

Played for Yorkshire U20's this season so assume he is 20 at the very most.

Interesting signing, hopfully he will come good, Hull must have been impressed with him enough to offer him a deal until the end of 2011, I would guess other teams RL or RU where looking at him.

Moved codes at a good age, certainly got the right attributes about him.

Hopfully as good as the last Pearce we signed from Union.

I'm guessing that if he is under 21 a similar situation to Lovegrove will be on the cards in that because he is a non-fed player when he starts his contract he would remain that until he leaves that club

its not much of a gamble for hull really as he is going to be in the jets program, where he trains part time arounge his college work. It will cost hull very little and im sure its a great move for him too moving to a big organisation like hull yet still study.

Whilst everyone still calls it the quota its actually not a quota in the traditional sense anymore. Its all about where you spent your early years developing as a player. The fact he hasn't been fed-trained, fed meaning RL rather than Union in this case, means he is "non-fed trained" currently. I think age does play a part though?

He's 19, turns 20 in December.

That seems a tad unfair! It's like saying we could sign a 14 year old to the academy and like R.Horne he's ready to make his debut at 16, this means he wouldn't be able to without being classed as non-fed.

In that case I'm not sure how he can ever play in SL as he won't be able to get 3 full seasons in before he turns 21. Maybe the rules aren't quite as strict as they appear?

As non-fed he can! This in my opinion is were the RFL let themselves down.
The kids only 19, he should be able to switch if he wants.

maybe there is some way to bypass the rule for siging 'late developers' who are still under 21 but wont get the 3 years in.
