I agree that the view was to keep Long for another 12 months, when he's injured play Obst and use Ellis as back up whilst seeing if Nicklas comes on.

The hooker signing does baffle a bit as Obst seems the ideal candidate to spell houghton, and would free up a quota place for a 7.

Is Fitzgibbon making any noises either way as to if he wants to stay for another year or not? If he wants to play on do you think he'd get another year?

I think he will retire, I would like to keep him but not at LF.

Now it looks like we need a quota place for another halfback though, so he may be sacrificed.

My main concern is that I think Agar think we have enough players for halfback and will play Horne and Obst there.

So Fitz may stay.

Only way id keep Fitz is if we move him up to the 2nd row/prop...he isnt a 13....play slows down with him at 1st reciever....we pay all that money for A 13 and put him in 2nd row.....thats Numbnuts for you.

agree on that...luaki has been a liability since he arrived...too may cheap penalties which in the end cost us........

Without looking at the stats I think you will find Hame has not given away many penalties this season and his performances imo have become more consistent. I just feel that the initial thought was a big aussie forward but that may now change if Long does not get a new contract and we might need the spot for an overseas half.

If we can't sign another half we might as well keep Long on a reduced contract, as he is still a much better player than obst at 7.

I wouldn't make the that decison until very late in the season though.

id be making strides now, we HAVE to get a regular 7 on the pitch..long is finished..get rid and move on....

That's my reading of the situation also. The worrying thing is that it looks like plan B is Obst/Horne with Ellis/Niklas as back up. That will mean another season of failure IMO.

Yeah agree with that. Long is a legend of the game and it's heartbreaking for him to have gone through this at this stage of his career but as a club we must do the right thing for us otherwise we will suffer.

Do we? By all accounts the most impressive young players we have coming through are forwards. We've also had 2 years where our pack is one of the best in the league yet we still struggle to win games. We need a 7.

With lauaki and fitzy on their way out it leaves us light in the forwards. In my opinion we need at least 1 more impact prop.

I can't see how the club can keep him on and I don't think he'll be chuffed to travel to Hull on a reduced contract to sit on the bench.
