If you get rid of Agar/Sharp, how do you plan on paying them off and paying new staff. Uncle Kath isnt going to be keep on parting with money when nobody likes him.

Well the best two coaches around are Bennett and Bellamy but they would never come. Plenty good good coaches we could go for but I would not be looking at Folkes.

Why wouldn't Bennet or Bellamy come, if we had deep enough pockets they would.

Bennett had moved to the Dragons and is now topping the table, it would take megabucks and he still would not come. Bellamy has every single resource a top coach would want with Melbourne, there is just no chance he would come to Hull.

Dreams are great but we need to be realistic.

Okay lets say we try and get them and fail. Which is highly likely. What happens then?

There is a difference between not having aspirations/desire and having a different view on the likelihood of a given coach accepting an approach.

Money can't actually buy you anything - or at least not the amount of money that we could raise even if the board went balls-out for it. Other factors such as playing roster, board, supporters, facilities, support staff etc. will be in play. All Paul is saying is that we fall short on those other factors compared to the existing clubs these coaches are currently contracted to.

I fall somewhere in between I guess. I'd certainly like us to be at least talking to coaches of that quality and making our best offer, while being sceptical of our chances of persuading them to come.

So why cant someone say theyd have him as a coach? I would.

If we simply accept our lot then we don't progress, it's as easy as that.

I don't see how you've made that jump from what Paul's said. Just because he doesn't think Bennett or Bellamy are realistic targets doesn't mean he's happy to stick with Agar.

Personally I think he's right, I don't see either of those 2 ever coaching in SL, particularly Bennett.

I seriously hope so, I knew we were screwed when I was told Agar had called a supporter before the Wigan away game LAST season. Agar is probably a really nice guy, but he hasn't an ounce of professionalism or credability I am afraid.

I fail to see how anyone can still justify supporting Agar as Head Coach.

He has failed in all aspects of the job.

The same people who say we should keep King I'd imagine.

The point is that in the NRL there are a number of world class coaches, the question is could we attract one of those. I don't know but if you look at other team's head coaches in SL there are not many (if any) that I would deem as world class. The reason is that most coaches in the NRL will not move over to SL as they deem the NRL the place to be. Some might move for the money but even then it would only be very few. An NRL coach has just about every facility he could desire within his grasp whereas over here we are lacking. Kearney said a year or so that this is one reason he would not want to come over to SL at this stage of his career.

You don't have to sign a Bennet or a Bellamy, you only have to look at someone like Daniel Anderson or Tony Smith. Neither were particularly highly rated yet did a magnificent job overe here. Nathan Brown was seen as an undercheiver at the Dragons, they had a great roster and played some decent rugby but never really achieved any success yet he has done a great job at Hudds.

We won't get Bellamy or Bennett but we could get a very good coach from the NRL, that is not accepting mediocrity it's simply being smart.

I'd go to Aus, talk to the likes of Swain, Kearney, Stirling, Smith, Hasler etc etc and ask who they think would be the best for the job. They know the area, they know what the fans are like, their expectations, beliefs on how rugby should be played etc etc and also have a good standing in the game and have a trust worthy judgement especially if you add all their opinions together. If most of them mention the same guy then you know you have the right man for the job

But the problem is you're not seeing beyond anything but the money aspect. For some that's the case, for others, not so much.

IIRC, Bennett's family situation with his disabled chidren is such that he pretty much has no intention of ever leaving Australia. And he's a good coach, but I don't think he's good enough to do it via telephone and email.

Spot on! Althought the bit about email and telephone may still be an improvement.
