| Still in the doghouse with the missus after choosing the rugby over her but it was worth it!
What a performance! The new signings were sensational and all led by example. Sezer and Cust looked like a proper halfback pairing and minus that heart in mouth moment when Rapana ushered that ball out, he was excellent too. Burrough and Asiata also excelled but the big one I want to applaud is Hardaker. Just loved his overall attitude and work rate last night. Kudos to the existing players as well because everyone really stood up and performed last night. Don't think anyone let us down.
They looked like a team last night rather than a bunch of strangers, all operating on the same page in both attack and defence. Especially defence. We were under pressure at times but they remained calm, didn't panic, and worked together to keep Catalans out. Last year we'd have buckled under that pressure resulting in some poor and lazy tackling, gaps would have opened up in defence, and our heads would have gone once a try was conceded. Last night was just such a breath of fresh air to see.
It's only one game and there'll be some stumbles along the way but this was a great way to start the season. Might even have a cheeky punt on the playoffs and the cup now!

|
One of the problems last night, I thought, was that Thaler and the replay operator seemed to be on a different wavelength every time they went to the screen. Thaler would be asking for one angle and the opposite would appear. Every decision seemed to go through this tortuous process, and when they did finally arrive at the best angle Thaler then proceeded to view it around half a dozen times! Every video call was taking 2-3 minutes at a time.
I was amazed at what time it was when the game ended, well after 10pm, more two hours after kick-off. It will feel even longer still when sat inside a cold stadium! The process needs speeding up or half the crowd will fall asleep through boredom![/quote:3sarjp8w]
The video ref needs to be given control to the cameras in my opinion. I have 0 idea if that is technically possible. I assume the video ref is somewhere else and not actually sitting in the control room. But if it can be achieved, with some training to all the officials on how to operate it, then it would make things a much quicker process. As you say, it gets tiresome listening to "to back to that last angle. No, the last angle. Now run it back further. And go slower. No, slower! Go back again please. No, back on the play, not back to the last angle"

This is just for you and the other ladies who dont like what i post and then complain when i dont.
I was actually at the match last night unlike you and most others on here and drove back to Spain last night so had a very late night.
Our win was great but unexpected but we rode our luck for 30 minutes then gained our reward with the little possession we had.
Clear to see the fitness levels are far higher and our defence was outstanding and we actually had some attacking shape when we did have the ball so its big raps from me to the coaching staff especially whoever was charged with defence.
We have two young gems on the wings, and the halfbacks with Asiata clearly showed what we have been missing there.
All the players played a part.Ligi Sao deserves a mention as does Lane for his non stop defence and workrate.
As for next week we are screwed now in the second row,Just cant see Holmes putting a run of games together.
Good night for the club and fans, lets not get carried away but at least we can see that with good defence and structure we can keep in games without been blown away

Fair play to you for making the journey yesterday. The support from the faithful came across very well (even through my ipad!!) and as you were a part of the throng, a thumbs up to you.
In your continuing role as the pantomime villain on here, I have no doubt you will enjoy your moment!

| For me what showed more than anything not only the measure of the man that John Cartwright is but also the type of coach and leader of men he is, just watch the video of the singing of Old Faithful.
The way he takes the back seat by stepping away and letting the players, staff and owner enjoy their moment is just pure class. In that action alone it shows we have a top quality leader & coach.

I confidently predict that wherever we are after 9
Games we won’t finish more than one place ahead of
that, so let’s hope for 6-7th
If we do lose to Wigan in the CC then maybe the
weeks off will help our league place

Nearly positive. Shame about screwed in second row. Another way to look at it is that there’s an opportunity for someone else. Glass half full and all that. I think yes its one game but we look like an outfit who won’t be in the bottom 3

| [b:12607ejd]I had hoped that my post yesterday asking for the petty squabbling/goading of each other would have struck a chord. This is a Hull FC board not a dick measuring contest as to who can be the most pathetic. FFS we won against all the odds with a pretty good performance yet some of you would rather goad each other with petty jibes.
As I said I’ve got better things to do with my time and quote honestly it’s like monitoring a group of 2 year olds.
This board is supposed to be a place for people to come and enjoy discussing the club and RL. After many seasons of utter carp we finally seem to have things in place to start moving up the table. So I will ask one more time please cut out the childish bickering and show some respect for everyone that uses the Hull FC board. [/color:12607ejd][/b:12607ejd]

I come back on after a long break and tbh,it’s just as bad as before…I know you have a hard job but it’s the same poster all the time who winds everyone up and has made sexist and racist remarks….now I don’t know the procedure for a ban but it would make this board a lot better…99.9% are respectful but it’s one poster

No, but there’s levels to it the way he goes way over the top just defies logic there’s no wonder people question if he’s either a Rovers fan on a wind up or has a personal vendetta against certain players.
Nobody claims either of them are world class but Chamberlain has played on the wing, centre and back row at SL level and looked decent in a good side for a long period when Leutele was injured, he’s hardly the slowest player in the league or whatever he calls him he looks quite quick. Holmes has been a consistently solid player for years. Loads of people have questioned the wisdom in signing them myself included, it just seems way over the top with that particular poster IMO at times.

holmes missed most of last season injured and, lo and behold, is injured again. I doubt we'll get more thank half a dozen games out of him. Sounds like his knee is knackered.
chamberlain is just a low quality SL signing. He was a back up at leigh but seemingly first choice here. Not a bad squad signing but as a first choice centre it's hardly inspiring, especially with only one really good 2nd rower in the squad (who is constantly injured).
I doubt bonaire is a dobbin, he's too persistent. Most would have got bored of it long before now. If we keep wiining and he's not around then maybe you're right

Myler says we offered a transfer fee for Cross, I think the club know we need a better centre but it’s finding one available.
Holmes might turn out to be a poor signing if he decent get on the field often, but we signed 10 or 11 players in one window bound to be a couple that don’t work out, not many Hull fans won’t think we are at least somewhat heading in the right direction on and off the field, if not 100% perfect.
It’s just the constant slagging of players and then using said players to have a pop at ‘Richie Rich’ constantly, that rings alarm bells, again that seems like some sort of personal ventetta or an act. I know some right glass half empty merchants but most seem a little bit happier since Myler has come in. You’d honestly think no DOR at any club has ever made a dud signing before.

| I know we're not paying Holmes to be a cheer leader, but the fact Cartwright took him across to the Catalans game says a lot about Holmes' influence on the squad or visa versa. The injuries are a concern, but as has been said plenty of times it's how these older players are influencing those around them 7 days a week, not just for 80 minutes on game day.

| I would just like to apologise if I have contributed to squabbling/goading that Chris mentioned.
It is important to remember that this is a public forum for everyone to share their views and we're not always going to agree with those views. The world would be a boring place if we always agreed on everything all the time and it's often different viewpoints that make for the more interesting discussions that can take place. That's not just amongst us FC fans but fans of RL in general. I personally find it quite interesting when fans of other clubs join in the discussions, getting an outside opinion on FC matters.
So we should be respectful of others rights to post their views. That said, people do need to think more about what they post (not just on here but on social media in general) IMO as it's one thing having the right to express your views but another when you use that right to merely troll and get a bite off people. There's also a fine line of being critical and, to use DSJ1983's terms, slag off and have a pop at others. That line does seem to get crossed far too often and tends to generate certain kind of responses in the same ways as trolling and fishing does. Again, that's not specifically aimed at here but at social media overall.
So a bit more thought into what is being posted and how it is responded to needed all round I think.

I thought this too. I think that's also one of the reasons we have been willing to take a risk with certain players given their injury statuses. Because we know they are bringing more to the club than just what will be on the field. They seem to have prioritised attitude and character with the signings.
