| Are a few squash courts, a gym, Hull City's new training facilities, a Burger King and a whole load of commercial buildings standing empty 'cos nobody want to rent them a conceivable income generator to maintain a council chuck-away of 40 Mill and a mortgage of another 80 Mill?
I suggest Assem waits until all the commercial lets in the much more asthetically appealing Humber Quays complex are rented and Albert Ave swimming pool, Costello, and the Pearson Park bowling green are buzzing to the extent that further investment is necessary. He may gain a bit of credibility to his argument that the lack of a few sporting and commercial facilities are all that are "holding the city back".
Face it, a housing and minor commercial development is hiding behind the smokescreen here.

You're not thinking of the kids. The huge Tescos on West Park will see the number of Asbos in the city drop by 80%. Honestly, woman, don't you listen?

| What's with the mans obsession with Squash Courts. Always had this down as a sport which would probably not be played by street corner hoodies. Is there some sort of underground squash movement going on that we're not aware of. Hmmm, maybe Allam is more 'down wid it' then we give him credit for

I reckon it's a legal place to go where kids previously destined for Asbos are able to squash each other flat under controlled conditions. Nowt to do with bats and balls.

I'm off to the council with my £150m scheme as I type. The fact that it's all pie in the sky with no funding streams in place, and relies on me getting ownership of a public asset, means, I suspect, that I'll get short shrift, like your mate did.
Maybe I should park up somewhere and actually think it through before going to the decision makers with my "broad generic values based on previous builds".
As I said, nothing to stop him going back with a better more thought out proposal. I imagine he's working on it right now, even before the toys get put back in the pram.

Rather depends on how much you value democracy I suppose.
One Cllr, without recourse to his electorate or the committee he represents, and against the published views of his party and Council leader decided the land's not for sale before he'd even heard the proposals.
As I said in my first post on this thread, small minded people putting their own prejudices before forward thinking have held this City back for years. That's not to say the stadium should be sold or the sports village built, but at least it should have been discussed. Not only has the current debate affected this investment, but it could well affect potential future investors who see the poor way this was dealt with.
There seems to be a group on here that can't see beyond being for or against a proposal that hasn't even been offered, prefering to take the discredited comments of someone that simply wasn't prepared to listen.
It leaves the Council needing to find funding to redevelop the area, something they said they'd do when the Stadium was first proposed. Who knows, maybe a self made millionaire will come forward with a scheme? They've been tripping over themselves for years to do that haven't they?
Out of interest, as the Council overpaid for the Boulevard and gifted a £40 million+ stadium to Hull FC, with no contribution from the Club or RL, should the profits be paid back to the Council until the amount plus interest is repaid?

Has anyone heard the proposals? Has Mr A actually made any formal proposals? My reading of it is that Geraghty has said the KC is not for sale to Allam because the reasons put forward aren't good enough, or even in existence.

Fair points.

Which bit of the area? West Park itself looks OK. If you mean Anlaby Road, then I agree it does need some redevelopment. Do Allam's "plans" include that?

Well Adam Pearson for one is aware of quite a bit more detail than seems to have come out in the fractious three hours Mr Alam spent with the Council, and he seems to fully support it so I guess the Cllr should have been a tad more patient?
Fair points.

West Park's in decline, but I guess there's no accounting for taste if you see Walton Street car park as a tourist attraction.
So it's our stadium now and we let City play in it? Glad we've got that sorted
Would you be happy with that, given that football generated some of the funding and a share bubble the rest, I'd have thought people getting rich for no investment was against your principles?
'"
At least you seem to be open to discussing it.
How do you feel about the blanket block rather than seeing a possible opportunity with mutual benefits?
Had the discussions gone on, I'd have hoped they could have brought out a bit more detail.
Had it been decided not to progress [iafter[/i that it would have been more reasonable, but two reasons for end of talks have both been shown to be nonsense. The first one was the Fair, which was later retracted, then protection of the RL, which was shown by the Clubs owner to be a none issue. The finance one is cloudy at best, but closed before it could even be opened.

So when the Cllr says the plans would have Hull FC out of the stadium in 15 months he's right? Adam Pearson and Mr Allam's reply that it couldn't happen and explained why it wouldn't be beneficial are just lies?

He said the gift of the ground to allam could see Hull FC out of the KC in 15 months.
It's been widely reported that allam wants the council to give him the KC (and presumably west park and the adjoining land. Do you think they should gift this substantial asset to him so he can develop the site and make money out of it?

Typo corrected.
However you phrase it, the people involved and in a position to know say they couldn't get Hull FC out and don't want that anyway.
As I keep putting, I'm in favour of negotiations taking place to see if there's a mutually satisfactory outcome rather than childishly grasping at weak excuses to end the chats.
I'd also dispute that it's a substantial asset. As it stands at the moment, it could equally be seen as a substantial liability.

I've plenty to say, but I've said it to people that make decisions and know what is actually happening, not to some idiot on a message board who seems unable to understand what is really going on.
