A great contest today. Players were really up for it and some terrific defence on show both ways. Unfortunately the usual suspects' individual errors/indiscipline let us down. The important thing here is the response IMO and how we turn 3 improving performances, but only 2 points, into some back to back wins.

Disappointing to lose, we deserved more. We gave a few penalties away towards the end but probably more out of tiredness. I think had we not lost Ogre we might have seen the game out.

Great effort from the coaching staff and the players.

That's the one, Wigan gave away one more penalty than us and won SL, we finished 6th.

Do you really want to claim we were a more disciplined team than Wigan?

Maybe you should especially check 2009 as well... and while your at it check who won the fair play league.

If we continue with the effort we showed today and the partnerships develops with Horne, Obst, Phelps and Long then we should pick up some wins in the next few weeks.

I disagree with that comment but Hull still have plenty to work on for sure.

I think the problem isn't necessarily the number of penalties, more when and where we give them away.

We turn it into wins by getting rid of Agar...simplez.End of the day...played 5 won 1 is crap,no matter who we have played,but some on here are happy that we nearly beat the champions with 12 men and lost it when they was down to 12 men...why doesnt he coach the bloody wingers how to defend...not the 1st time Sharp has been caught out this season.....looks like another Craig Hall...he got hung out to dry last season at Wigan.Why doesnt Agar hit them with Fines then for penaltys and Washbrook should be the bloody reserve t-carrier.

No you're right, cos penalty count is the only worthwhile measure of discipline. And last year our discipline was superior or at least on a par with Wigan's.

Oh yes, the reason we conceded so few penalties in 09 was because Agar had his charges so well disciplined and was in no way whatsoever to do with the fact we were a joke on the pitch and barely competitive in most of our games.


You always try to argue the pro-Agar case with me and you're rubbish at it mate. Learn from someone like East Hull FC or even Paul M, at least they know their stuff!

What are the other measures?

I'm not going to write you a list, let me ask you if you honestly think our discipline was at least as good as Wigan's over the course of last season?

If you accept that it wasn't then you accept that there's more to discipline than the penalty count stats.

Our win ratio is unacceptable - agreed
Sharp looks extremely shaky and an easy target - agreed
Washy's error to me was the turning point when we had them on the rack. A pivotal moment and stupid error that you can't afford to make against Wigan. Agree, in knee jerk/scapegoat mode, that he shouldn't be near our 17.
Not sure, however, that we would have won that game with a different coach. And given that we normally ship 47 points at Wigan, I'm relatively pleased with it.

By a strange quirk,I think if we were being hammered,most would be saying we expected it.Because we chucked a close game in the final moments,it seems to grate more.

It's not a strange quirk though, we lost a lead to 12 men and if that wasn't enough we lost it because they managed to get an overlap on us!

It takes a special coach to manage that.

A special coach who for three bloody years has not managed to show one iota of improvement to our right-side defence.
